VERY REALISTIC...but not really, if you know what I mean...

Maggie Diary 2, no.8 in series, was a good book. But unlike the other CADiaries, i gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because an anorexic does not just realise she (or he) has a problem and then get instantly better. The agony of recovering does not happen as fast as portrayed in this book. In this book, it was like, "I guess i have a problem, but i don't know what to do about it, so i'll just eat again". An anorexic doesn't realise that they have an eating problem this fast - it can take months, or years, to admit a problem...and some anorexics NEVER admit the problem. In this book i think that Ann M Martin was in a hurry to finish the book and that is probably why Maggie so suddenly realised about her anorexia.
However i do think that Ann made the feelings and thoughts of Maggie very much like a true anorexic's, so there was a little realism in the book. This is what i mean by, 'VERY REALISTIC...but not really, if you know what I mean...'.
There was a good sub-plot about her mum and her alcohol problems, too. And the date with Justin was good, very much like a real anorexic would act on a date - 'Too many calories, i've already eaten, i feel sick,' etc...excuses for not eating. The way Ann M Martin portrayed this in the book was good.
Worth reading and buying overall, good CADiaries book.
