Immature Characters

Elizabeth and Tara-Starr are best friends, even though they live completely different lives. Elizabeth comes from a wealthy family; she lives in the lap of luxury in a very expensive house, and her parents are very concerned about their place in society. Tara-Starr's family never seems to have money, because her parents are pretty irresponsible. They had her very young and she sometimes feels like she is more of a parent to them than they are parents to her. However, Elizabeth and Tara-Starr's friendship is able to overcome these things.

Then Tara-Starr moves far away. She and Elizabeth have to continue their friendship through letters to each other, since neither of their families will allow them to call each other on the phone and they are too far away to visit.

At first the letters are pretty normal; Elizabeth and Tara-Starr are the same as they have always been. Then things start to change. Tara-Starr's parents actually seem to be taking some responsibility and acting like adults. At the same time, things in Elizabeth's life seem to be falling apart. Something bad is happening with her parents, and she is getting more and more worried. Can their friendship survive when Tara-Starr's life is so wonderful and Elizabeth's is so awful?

I liked the letter format of this story, and the two main characters were pretty vivid because of their writing. They were a bit immature, though, for the age they are supposed to be. A limitation to this style of writing was that the reader didn't really get any extra details of the lives of these girls. I would have liked to have had a more well-rounded view of Elizabeth's and Tara-Starr's life.

A Bookreport by Leighton Acree

Elizabeth and Tara-Star are fabulous friends! But Tara-Star sadly moves away and the two depressed girls must continue their friendship by sending letters to eachother. At the beginning of their 7th grade year, they both have a tough time adjusting to their schools without being together. Tara-Star gets many new friends and a boyfriend as well. Elizabeth interrupts Tara-Star's great exploration of her new school. She gets a shocking letter saying that Elizabeth's achoholic father owes a tremendous amount of money to the credit card company and the bank, though he keeps spending more cash. Elizabeth must talk to Mrs.Jackson, her teacher, and Tara-Star to get out of the hole of doom and suffering. Poetry started to become a helpful source to relieve Elizabeth's disapointment while her parents got divorced. But luckily her mother found a one room apartment and a job. It was great that she had two friends close by. Their friendship grew to be enormous, and Elizabeth was not the type of person who forgets about who her old but true friends. Especially Tara-Star. They end up visiting eachother a great number of times. It's funny how these two wonderful girls share a close relationship although they may have been far apart. But reading this book, their connection made me realize that the friendship is all that counts!

P.S. Longer Letter Later by Anne M. Martin and Paula Danziger

Book Review

My book review is on P.S. Longer Letter Later by Anne M. Martin and Paula Danziger. The book is about these two girls named Terra*Starr and Elizabeth. They are best friends. Terra*Starr moves and then she is far away from Elizabeth. Because of this, they write letters to each other. All they want is to be able to see each other again.
During the letters Terra*Starr has all of these problems with her parents and everything seems to be going good with Elizabeth. Then Elizabeth starts to have these problems with her dad losing his job. Just then, Terra's problems stop. They get into this huge letter fight. What will happen next with all of their problems? Will they be able to fix them? Or will the events get even rougher and the problems get even worse than they already have?
I chose this book because it is one of my favorite books. The reason why is because it goes with the types of books I like. The kind that I like is romance, scary ones, and friendship. It's a book that goes through letters and the book is about friendship. If you want to find out why happens, then find the book and read it. I suggest this book to anyone who loves books about friendship and difficult problems. This is a book that you will love. So if you start reading it, then you will enjoy it and want to read it more until the book is over. There is also a sequel Snail Mail No More.

P.S. Longer Letter Later (The Best Book Ever!!)

The novel P.S. Longer Letter Later is a very exciting story about two young girls who were best friends. The real question was how long could they keep there relationship strong. tara had what she thought was average parents, and elizabeth had very young parents who she had to teach how to grow up. These two girls did not have perfect lives, but they were happy with who they were, what they had, but they were most grateful for eachother. They went to the samqe school, had lots of sleepovers, and saw eachother at least two times a day. Tara's parents had kept a secret from her, she wasnt sure what it was but she could tell that it was causing problems, big problems. She noticed that her parents were getting in alot of fights, also that a lot of companys were calling(and they werent happy), and that her dad had found a new interest of drinking. The girls always wrote letters to eachother talking about everything that they could possibley find. A few days later Elizabeth had sent a letter. When tara went to read it, it had some disapointing noose, Elizabeth was moving. Of course she was moving right when Tara's family was having a meltdown. Can these two girls still kepp there friendship, and work things out with there family? This a great story, and they even made an amazing sequel "Snail Mail No More" READ IT!!!!!!

The Dramatic Duo

Tara*Starr is at the dinner table when she hears the big news. She has to move away from her best friend in the entire world, Elizabeth. The girls then have to correspond through letters. I can relate to Tara*Starr and Elizabeth because my best friend had to move away when I was only six years old.

The characters in P.S Longer Letter Later have totally different personalities. Elizabeth is shy and hates being the center of attention, the exact opposite of Tara*Starr. Tara*Starr is like a hot pink flamingo standing in the middle of an empty lake. She is outgoing, loud, and stands out in a crowd.

There are also many events going on in this book. A lot like best friends Elizabeth and Tara*Starr get in fights a lot. Such as when Elizabeth's dad becomes an alcoholic and moves out. Elizabeth becomes depressed and doesn't want to talk about it. Then Tara*Starr becomes mad at her because she thinks that Elizabeth is ignoring her letters. Another event is when Tara*Starr's mother announces that she is pregnant with a baby girl.

I personally love Paula Danziger and Ann M. Martin's writing s because each letter leaves you hanging and makes you want to read even more. One time I read one hundred pages in only one hour. Danziger and Martin's writing is like a river flowing smoothly through the earth's crevices. In conclusion, I think that if you like books that have a lot of drama and interesting characters then you'll especially love this book.

If opposites really do attract, this explains why Elizabeth and Tara*Starr are best friends.  Not only are their personalities different, but their family backgrounds are a lesson in socio-economic diversity.  When Tara*Starr's family moves to another town, the letters that she and Elizabeth write regularly become even more important.  Their correspondence chronicles the joys, hopes, fears, and sometimes pain, of two girls coming of age.
