A Good, Clear, Treatment Plan

I purchased Dr. Zaidi's book six months ago when I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and it has been a tremondous help in copping with my condition. The book provides an excellent explanation the causes and symptoms of insulin resistence and provides a well though out treatment plan. This includes a simple excercise routine, an easy to follow diet, and a stress management plan. By following Dr. Zaidi's plan, and my doctors treatment, I have lowered my blood glucose from 313 to a level consistently under 120. I have lost weight and stopped the effects of neuropathy in my feet. I highly recommend this book for anyone with diabetes or wanting to learn about diabetes.

What is so revolutionary?

Besides some noteworthy statements the author of this book deals with diabetes with no cutting edge approach. It raised my alarm when she said that glipizide and most diabetic medication do not really address the problem and that in time things will become worst. Mentioned that the real culprit is the pancreas and its inability to produce insulin. Raises the issue that diet, exercise and prevention basically are the strongest weapons in the fight against diabetes. Something most people afflicted with this disease learn early on. In many pages the description of devastating heart attacks, amputation, nerve damage kept repeating themselves. Frankly, I do appreciate the seriousness of the disease but to rub it in this way only makes a person more anxious. I was hoping for a cutting edge approach opposite to what is available these days. In the vitamin section at the end of the chapter she mentions her own vitamins, Gulpride, which I immediately went to a couple of places on the internet to find more about them only to find that she holds the monopoly on this product and that the price on her website was about $40 for sixty pills? No place else I was able to find some kind of background, endorsement, criticism on Gulpride. Yes, exercise is indispensable. Good diet is a must. Eye check ups and all the avalanche of possible complications is what makes this disease so frustrating. The book and its many different case studies failed to deliver what I had hoped for. Perhaps I am dead wrong but I realize the fight against high sugar levels requires moderation and positive attitude. This book did not leave me very positive, kind of gave me the "wheelies" once or twice. Perhaps I am the kind of person that needs reassurance that with the right decisions everything should turn out right. 3 Stars and hope I have not offended any of the more enthusiastic reviewers and their higher ratings. If it helps any of them any, they are the reason I purchase the book in the first place.

exellent book

A must read for every diabetic. A true eye-opener! Once you read it you will understand what I mean. I learnt so much from this book. For the first time, I realized that diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol disorder, heart disease, stroke and memory loss are actually not separate diseases but manifestations of one disease process in the body, called insulin resistance. Dr. Zaidi explains insulin resistance in a very simple English that every one can understand. He describes his Five- pillar treatment strategy which includes diet, exercise, stress management, vitamins and medications. Diet is so easy to follow. No calorie counting and not even carb. counting. A diet that has really worked for me and I don't look at it as diet but a lifestyle change. I don't feel like I am punishing myself. He describes a unique way to take care of stress. Other diabetic books don't even talk about stress, which is sad because stress is an important factor in raising blood glucose, as we all diabetics very well know. Dr.Zaidi takes a scientific look at herbs and vitamins which I did not find in any other diabetes book written by an endocrinologist. Above all I learnt that most diabetics do not need insulin if treated the right way. What a relief for me! Dr.Zaidi describes actual cases from his practice and explains how he takes diabetics off insulin. I also for the first time realized that it is not just a matter of controlling blood glucose but how you control your blood glucose is the most important aspect of treating diabetes. All diabetic medicines are not the same. Many may control blood glucose but do nothing to reduce your risk for heart attack or stroke. Only a couple of medicines actually treat insulin resistance. This was an eye-opener for me because I used to think that all diabetic medicines are pretty much the same. Dr.Zaidi brilliantly explains that most diabetics are suffering from insulin resistance. Therefore controlling blood glucose by treating insulin resistance is the right way. Only then you can reduce your risk for having a heart attack or a stroke because insulin resistance is what causes heart attack or stroke. It makes so much sense. He explains it so nicely that even I, who is an average guy, got it, first time I read it. I have read many books on diabetes but this is one unique book. Therefore, I strongly recommend it to every diabetic.

A groundbreaking program for managing--and even reversing the symptoms of--both Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes by tackling the root cause: insulin resistance.

Though not all physicians are aware of the scientific advances that prove it, most diabetics can now avoid insulin injections and prevent or reverse the deadly complications of their disease. The key is treating the root problem--insulin resistance--instead of focusing on controlling blood sugar levels, an outdated practice that puts patients at greater risk for heart attack and stroke.

Take Charge of Your Diabetes showcases the unique plan Dr. Zaidi has developed in treating thousands of cases of Type 1 and Type 2 successfully. Dramatically different from traditional treatment protocols, the program includes an easy-to-follow diet, a moderate exercise and stress-reduction plan, vitamin and supplement recommendations, and a prescription medication regimen that reduces the number of medications as time goes on instead of the traditional treatment model: stepping up doses as diabetes progresses.
