Useful/interesting information about each episode....

Things I liked about this book:

1. Episode summaries in an easy to access format. For truly fabulous episode reviews, I love the Delta Blues website (Jim Wright's Voyager reviews). But when I am choosing episodes for my children to watch, I like being able to flip through this book quickly to find episodes that aren't too old for them.

2. Pictures. They are black and white, but I still enjoyed them. There are at least two pictures per episode.

3. Trivia. There is very little trivia in this book - most of it is tagged onto the end of a synopsis in the 1-2 sentence "episode logs", but whenever it is included it is interesting.

4. Character reviews. There are several pages devoted to each crew member. They describe the character's first appearance on Voyager. They describe the growth of the character throughout the series, and various actors reactions to the character.

5. The Voyager bible (4 pages). It is interesting, to see the background the actors were given and how they breathed life (at least, most of them did) into the characters on the screen.

Well anyway, I see I'm in the minority to have enjoyed this book, but the only series I watched with any regularity was Voyager, so I am not comparing this book to other apparently far more superior books in the Trek series. As a companion to the DVDs, I think it is very useful for choosing what episode you might want to watch.

A much recommended Companion the Star Trek Series

Trekkers and trekkies will will enjoy the archival quality of this book. New Star Trek fans will find it doubly useful to explain what happened in each episode to people who may not have watched every Star Trek Series episode so many multiple times that they can intuitively grasp every nuance.

For me, I use it to select which episode I'm going to watch tonight. It refreshes my memory relative to connecting the title with the episode content. Plus, there's enough interesting content to really bring people into the Start Trek Universe. This Companion is much recommended.

Lackluster compared to TNG Companion

I guess all the reviews are right - this book just isn't up to par compared to the other very good Companions out there for Trek series. The synopses are over-long, while the background material is practically non-existent. Instead of the illuminating and interesting "behind the scenes" stories the other companions offered, you just get more synopsis: how many shuttle craft were blown up, how many cups of coffee Capt. Janeway has consumed, etc. It's as though the author did not have any access to cast, crew, or production in preparing this book. There is just no anecdotal storytelling giving you insight into the writing, casting, production, airing, ratings, zip. Nada.

This book serves as a synopsis of the series in order, which may be useful if you're trying to find a particular episode to queue up on DVD. It is merely average, and would best be picked up used at a discount.

great product for Trekers, good price

Love this in my Star Trek collection. Helps you to remember all of the great episodes of this series.

O.K. companion for DVD collection

This book is very helpful in locating specific episodes in your DVD collection, but it lacks the interesting behind-the-scenes stories of Larry Nemecek's Next Generation Companion. It is worth the price.

reviews: page 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8

Over thirty-five years ago, creating a television series about a group of explorers making their way across the unexplored reaches of space was a gamble for a small studio. For the network that bought the show, it proved to be an even greater gamble, and after three seasons with "disappointing" ratings they cancelled Star Trek

In the subsequent decades, a great deal changed. By 1995, Star Trek and its two successors, Star Trek: The Next Generation® and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,® had changed the face of syndication across the country. Now as the studio and its parent company, Viacom, looked to launch their own network, a new Star Trek series would easily become the cornerstone of the new enterprise.

In creating Star Trek: Voyager, Executive Producers Rick Berman, Michael Piller, and Jeri Taylor embraced Star Trek's original theme of "exploring strange new worlds and new civilizations," then took it a step further by stranding their crew in the farthest reaches of the Delta Quadrant, totally cut off from all that was familiar. It was a bold step, one that forced both the starship's crew and the show itself to stand on its own, its success determined by its own resourcefulness.

For seven years, Captain Kathryn Janeway and the crew of the aptly named Starship Voyager? lived with one goal -- to get home -- and strove to live up to the ideals of Starfleet as they traveled alone in a tumultuous region of space. Relive their epic journey through summaries, photos, and detailed episode data in this official companion to Star Trek: Voyager, the series that proved once again the power of Star Trek.
