All About Techniques In Color, is an excellent book that includes the physics of colored light and the physics of colored pigments. There are comprehensive color complexities. The unique characteristics and color differences of these mediums are discussed throughout the book: Oil, watercolor, acrylics, guache and pastels. Theory and practice are discussed. Before beginning this book, read the Appendix at the back of the book, in order to clarify the three primary colors in paint pigments. On page 48, uder the subtitle Oils, the primary red color magenta and the near primary color madder lake are treated. At some point in the book the preference of some artists to use carmine the near primary red color of paint pigment, begins to be used extensively. The color carmine is used in other ways also in descriptions. Some people have found this confusing. This might be the result of some confusion in translation or simply the deliberate use of carmine the lighter related red interchangeably as the primary color pigment red. Having read the Appendix first, think of the use of this terminology and remember the actual name magenta, the primary pigment color red in the physics of the three primary pigments. All About techniques in Color is a very good reference book.
