Started good, good idea, didn't get it

I have never read this author, but I love romantic suspense so I thought this would be a good addition. It had a good story line and sounded like it would be great, but I never really got into it. Reporter Erin McKenna has uncovered fraud in a major corporation dealing in government contracts. After testifying, she is fired by the paper who is now owned by the corporation. She returns home and is hit over the head and her computer stolen. FBI agent and former special forces soldier Jerrod Westlake finds her when he arrives to her home to ensure she testifies. She knows it is not because of her fraud findings, but a current investigation into the companies sex trade business. Jerrod and Erin decide to work together. Jerrod specializes in missing persons because of the dissappearance of his sister years ago. This is where it all goes down hill.

As Erin and Jerrod hide and he spends the next major part of the story teaching her how to be a special forces soldier, his friend a female agent is kidnapped and tourtured by this company so she will tell them what Jerrod is doing and where he is. She doesn't and is raped and tourtured. So this company trying to stay off the radar kidnaps a federal agent?? Wouldn't they just follow her and tap her lines? And then the entire FBI can't find her?

The story really never hooked me. For an FBI agent and a reporter, they did very little investigating and a lot of "training". I don't want to give away anything, but without snitches, they would still be running drills. And the "romance" was very forced, like she said oh yeah there is supposed to be a romantic interest. There is no tension and then all of a suddend they are making out. I didn't buy it.

The end seemed sudden and forced, all this build up and then it is over. I will be skipping any more of this writer and focusing on authors who can build more suspense and action.

Not bad. Could have used a little more 'oomph', though.

I thought it wasn't bad. I through Erin to be a strong woman who keeps her head when her life spins out of control. She does what she needs to do, what needs to be done, and although the threat is that it will eat away at what's inside, she still does what needs to be done.

I found Jerrod to be somewhat pragmatic and cynical, more concerned about others than himself, and will stop at nothing if to rescue a child or friend, regardless of the situation. I'm glad that Erin showed him that there's more to what he does than he realizes.

I thought the actions scenes, what of them, where well played. But the plot seemed to lack somewhat for me. It's not that there were holes, but I believe there could have been more. I found the story to be a little slow at time, and while not completely boring, there could have been more to it. I found the ending okay, but I wasn't thrilled, and I found it rushed.

An okay, fast read, but not a run-to-the-store-the-second-it-came-out kind of book.

Get Back to the Story

Erin McKenna thought her life was tough when she had to testify against a major defense contractor, but her life down right sucks when said contactor buys her paper and she is out on the street without a job. But she is not without choice since she has been working another angle - this defense contractor sweetens their deals by dabbling in the sex slave trade. All she needs is a little more information to print the story.

When Erin McKenna is attacked at her apartment, Jerod Westlake, ex-black ops, comes to her aid and helps her uncover the whole story. Jerod has his own demons, namely the disappearance of his own sister and has made his name by finding and returning kidnapped children. Between the two of them, and with the help of good friends, Erin and Jerrod are determined to make a difference.

I didn't really like this one. Was it supposed to be about the White Slave Trade, Backdoor dealing in major corporations or a love story?
