I gave three stars but it could of been four stars.
I can see why someone might give this four stars. I don't like "space heroes" because they are always powered by "a million stars" or by "the power cosmic" or something else that makes them basically like Superman. But somehow the hero is weaken by a lame plot device which makes it difficult for him to beat the enemy. And thats why I gave it three stars instead of four. I would like to say that I was really tempted to give
Nova
vol.1 a four out of five despite it being about a "space hero". It was because the book deals with a lot of issues that must comic books don't. Nova finds himself back on Earth but he isn't home. He soons find out about the Stamford incident, the role the New Warriors played in it and the resulting Civil War within the Super-Hero community. If that wasn't enough he soons ends up fighting the Thunderbolts and then being told that they were Federal officals. Nova himself isn't the same person from the last time he was on Earth, he is now one of the most powerful beings on the planet. Also, he was survived the horrors of the
Annihilation Wave
and instead of finding comfort at home he finds out that he is a stranger in a strange land.

Nova's new series post-Annihilation
Nova
, The Human Rocket (aka Richard Rider) starred in a sometimes charming but mostly mediocre twenty-five issue mid-1970s Marvel series. High schooler Rider randomly inherited his cosmic Nova superpowers from a space beam fired Earthward by a dying alien. He was reintroduced as a member of the New Warriors before leaving earth to serve in the NovaCorps of Xandar in the Marvel Cosmic Universe. Nova was the only Nova Corps member to survive the destruction of Xandar and was thus the receptacle of the nearly omniscient NovaCorps Worldmind. After the success of the "
Annihilation
" crossover Marvel gave Nova another solo series. This TPB collects the first seven issues.
Nova exhausts himself while shouldering the NovaCorps' entire load and decides to visit his home planet. Issue 3 is my favorite of the series: Nova observes the aftermath of the Civil War and considers Tony Stark's offer to join The Initiative. Later, Nova returns to space and runs afoul of Gamora and the Phalanx technovirus.

Nova continues to be Marvel's rising Star
Coming out of the pages of
Annihilation
Nova
is the last remaining member of the Nova Corps and after the Annihilation Wave there is way more work then one person can handle, nontheless, Rich Rider refuses to let that stop him. And as the story evolves Nova learns of a new threat to the Universe and prepares for battle with it.
Ride On, Richard! Go Nova Go!
Nova
is the best thing to come out of Marvels'
Annihilation
by far. Richard is one of the coolest guys around, and I love the interaction between him and the Worldmind. I loved his brief stint on Earth in this collection, and am looking forward to (hopefully) a major throwdown between Richard and Robbie (Penance). The stories when he went to help out the Kree were splendid also. I just wish that they had come up with a better name than Annihilation:
Conquest
, since these stories have really nothing to do with Annihilus at all, but a foe who is far more formidable. I am really looking forward to great things from this series. Ride On Richard, Ride On! Peace and Love.

Nova keeps getting better
Before
Annihilation
, I thought the Human Rocket was just some C-List Hero in the Marvel Universe but now
Nova
is turning to one of the greatest heroes Earth has to offer. This TPB is a must read as it is a look into Nova's new life.
