Wolverine (Weapon X) @ Broadway's Hidden Grotto Comics and Gaming Shoppe

The book arrived in a very timely manner and was in excellent condition when I checked it out initially. When I purviewed the book at my store it caught my attention enough that I wound up reading it all the way through and was very well written and drawn.

A Timeless Comic

Weapon X is one of the coolest concepts in the Marvel Universe. Anyone who reads comics should find interest in Logan's dark past. While this comic may not be what I expected, I fell in love with it as the story slowly moved on. At one point I thought it was going to be an inaccessable Grant Morisson type comic, but thankfully the story becomes more and more clear as you move along. Weapon X is possibly one of the darkest tales from Marvel, although it may not appear so at first glance. Barry Windsor-Smith creates the dark mood by molding the evil personality of the doctor experimenting on Wolverine. This scientist becomes on of the most well-shaped and terrifying villains of Logan's history, even though he's not a scary mutant. Sometimes it's the humans that do horrifying things to others that look scarier than supervillains like Dr. Doom.

Anyone who wants to read Wolverine comics should visit Weapon X very soon. I've read Origins, and this older comic turned out to be a lot more fun and haunting. In Wolverine's timeline, Weapon X HAS to be one of the most significant marks. It's moody, daring, gritty, and yet a classic. This is one comic that I could bet on being in nearly ever comic readers' library. If not, it should be.

Not your average graphic novel

Okay, first off, Barry Windsor-Smith wrote AND drew this story. That says a lot. Because of this, you really get the sense that this was a carefully planned tale. Each frame has been meticulously contemplated. Not a single space is wasted. You really get a full, complete vision with this book, a solid, stand-alone story where you don't need any issues before or after to get the whole picture. And I like that.

And it's a really entertaining story, too. Much more in-depth than the films as far as Wolverine's brain-washing and training goes.

I only have some slight complaints about this book, neither of which make me regret my decision to buy it. First off, the artwork, while detailed and really cool most of the time, can sometimes be confusing and a little too sketchy. It also hasn't aged as well as some artwork. However, like I said, it's really cool, and the way the story is told through pictures is almost like watching a film.

Secondly, the story isn't overly complicated, but it wasn't as easy to follow as it could have been. I'm still slightly unsure of what exactly happened at the end, but I probably just need to give it a second read.

Bottom line, a really cool book. A tad confusing, and sometimes a little too sci-fi in nature, but definitely worth the money.

wasn't as good as expected

For some reason, i thought this book would be a detailed look into wolverine's time with the weapon x group... instead it was a 176 page voyage into a man's personal hell! Page after page of wolverine being tortured, and then sent out to kill things! No insight as to who was doing this, why, what they were looking to accomplish!

If i had known more about what it was actually about, i would have stayed away!
