What a great idea!

My 3 year old son absolutely loves this book. Although there are no words, it gives him a great opportunity to use his imagination. The pictures are simple and as he makes up the words for each page it gives him the feeling of accomplishment of finishing a book on his own.

Great for Language Learning

Mercer Mayer's series of books are not only great for Children who are beginning to speak, they are also fantastic tools for language learning. Wordless books allow a language learner and their language helper to learn vocabulary and construct stories together in the target language. It is great for vocabulary consolidation, grammar development, and the development of storytelling skills.

Endless possibilities

This book has wonderfully cute illustrations (all black and white). There aren't any words on a single page, which allows the reader to make up their own story based on what's happening in the pictures. It's perfect for the very young, non-reader, and even for the seasoned grade schooler. This book allows you to be creative and perceptive. It's a lot of fun.

Great drawings, tell the story

This book was purchased for my grandson's 5th birthday. He is already reading a little, so I had mixed feelings about purchasing a book that had no written text. However, "reading" the drawings is a wonderful experience... and exercises our brains in a slightly different way. I am sure my grandson will enjoy this book very much as he is already a huge fan of Mercer Mayer's other books, such as Littler Critter and Little Monster.

An Entertaining Book

This is an excellent book for speakers of other languages and for Deaf students. As an American Sign language teacher, I use this book to encourage my students to think outside the box, to learn to express in ASL what they see in this book. The characters are so expressive and actions so clear that it is easy for others to understand what is happening. I also use this book for ASL assessment to evaluate how children retell the stories in ASL.

A boy and his dog go walking in the swamp.

They spot a frog in the water.

Can they use a net to catch him?
