Hilarious book!

This book is too funny! My kids and I love it! Yes, its a short and simple book, but when you start paying attention to details, you realize some of the things hidden in the book. For instance - every time something goes wrong, I have my son find the chicken that saw the problem. And on every "Chickens to the Rescue!" page - there is one chicken that is always asleep on an egg. At the end of the book when the chickens are all asleep - the egg hatches. Stuff like that that makes the book more than what it seems. Highly recommend it!

Great illustrations increase participation of listeners!

I lead storytime programs for our local library and do outreach to area nursery schools. I just read this book last week and have nothing but raves for it. Not only is the story successful, the illustrations draw the listener in and provide ample opportunity for comments and laughs. The author also uses the days to sequence the action, which was good reinforcement for learning the days. On Monday..., "what day comes next after Monday?"..., etc. The final page, as someone already mentioned, shows an illustration of pigs, leading readers/listeners to predict what will happen next. Be prepared for the almost immediate "Pigs to the rescue!".

An A+ book, it has become one of my faves.

A Hit with my Six Year Old!

We initially got this book at the library. My 6 yr. old son read it right away and was laughing hard in the back seat of the car. He read it so much that I had to purchase it. It remains one of his all time favorites!

Super Fun!

I am a storytime leader for preschoolers, and this book is the favorite so far this year. After listening to it, several of the children had to get copies of their own. I highly recommend it!

Very cute - be sure to ham it up!

There's not that much to this story. It's very short (and so very appropriate for little-little ones or squeezed-in storytimes!), detailing the misadventures of a farm family all week, and their rescues by the chickens.

The illustrations are hysterical, with the chickens frantically holding up yield signs to stop duck from stealing the truck, with them putting out a trampoline to save cow, with them scolding the dog for eating Jeffrey's homework.

Eventually, they sleep right through a rescue - but they've earned it.

It's very funny, especially if you're sure to yell every time you get to the tagline - CHICKENS! TO! THE RESCUUUUUUUUUUUE!

Meet the most heroic chickens in town! On Monday, Farmer Greenstalk dropped his watch down the well. . . .
On Tuesday, Mrs. Greenstalk was too tired to make dinner. . . .  Who will help the poor Greenstalk family? Chickens to the rescue! The amazing chickens on the Greenstalk farm race to help various family members and farm animals every day of the week. Every day until Sunday, that is, when Emily Greenstalk has a little trouble . . .  John Himmelman?s expressive illustrations are filled with the kind of hilarious details that will delight young readers.
