A Scholarly and Thoughtful Contribution

I believe that this book is an important contribution to the ongoing exploration (1) of whether or not we can integrate faith, learning, and living in a rational, academic, and scholarly way at institutions of higher education, (2) of why such integration is important, and (3)of how we can begin to accomplish real integration in a variety of academic or intellectual disciplines. Much of the information contained in this text is also transferable to the world in general--particularly churches--that are grappling with issues relating to the compartmentalization of our lives. The question is not only to how we as faculty at Christian institutions of higher learning can integrate our faith into the learning experiences of our student, but also how can we contribute to the development of the life of the mind and of faith-based character qualities and practices that will impact the lives of our graduates and other people of faith in every profession and vocation in this world that is so deeply and adversely affected by the prevailing philosophy of postmodernism. I highly recommend this book.

As insightful as it is serious and thoughtful

Collaboratively compiled and edited by David S. Dockery (President of Union University) and Gregory Alan Thornbury (Director of the Carl F. H. Henry Center for Christian Leadership and Assistant Professor of Christian Studies, Union University), Shaping a Christian Worldview: The Foundations of Christian Higher Education is an impressive and scholarly collection of learned essays by seventeen erudite authors concerning the intersection of the Christian worldview and educational and social goals. Astutely addressing dilemmas faced in contemporary education from a deeply reverential and spiritual perspective, Shaping a Christian Worldview is as insightful as it is serious and thoughtful.
