Good reference text for the non-statistician

Use of this book requires a basic knowledge of statistics and the tests you will be performing. Don't use a test if you don't know the theory behind it. What's great about the book is the no-nonsense explaination of default data analysis output tables. Every user of SPSS will eventually need to wade through these complete, but poorly organized tables.

A very handy and useful book

I wish I'd found this book earlier during my undergraduate years. SPSS for psychologists covers from the most basic topics to quite advanced (such as factor analysis and logistic regression). It is very easy to read, explains how to do various statistical operations in SPSS and how to interpret them. I came across a few errors, though, but they were minor and I highly recommend this book!

This user-friendly text guides the novice user through the process of entering and analyzing data using Versions 8, 9, and 10 of SPSS. The text:
* assumes only the most basic knowledge of Windows;
* reminds students of basic issues regarding design and statistics;
* proceeds gently through the major quantitative statistical techniques used in psychology;
* introduces students to the rationale and use of each test; and
* provides clearly annotated examples of SPSS output.

In this way, users are shown how to choose, perform, and report the statistical analysis of their own data. The emphasis the text places on considering what the output from SPSS means is a result of the authors' realization that students need to understand that using SPSS and understanding the output of SPSS are two different things.
