Very informative manual, suitable for a variety of audiences

I think this is a wonderful book, and I would say that even if I had not written a short part of it.

The intended audience for the second edition is wider than for the first. Experts on specific health problems detail pain problems specific to those disorders.

Pain: Clinical Manuel

Very helpful for pain stradgies for patients.

Rates a 20 on the VAS!!

I found this book so helpful to me in my practice, that I bought a second copy - leave one in the office, and one at home so that whenver I need a reference, it is right there. Margo and Chris have provided those of us interested in pain managment with a jewel - this book just has it all. And they generously allow you to photocopy patient education materials.

It is the best thing out there. My only regret about this book is the quality of the paper - too thin, and when you use it all the time, it tears easily. I hope in the third edition the publisher will upgrade the paper. I would be willing to spend more for better quality paper.

So, on a scale of 0 - 10, with 0 being blah and 10 being SUPER, this book is a 20!!!

Both thumbs up

Ten years + ago I took a class in Pain management where McCaffrey's first book was the text. It was an incredible learning experience. Imagine, physcians prescribe less pain medication than needed to resolve pain and nurses give about half that amount. Why? Because as a society we are fearful of addiction and we make judgements about people who have difficulty handling pain. We don't realize the true cost of 'toughing' it out. This book is comprehensive and readable. Ms. McCaffrey et al make their case for intelligent pain control rather than knee jerk reactions. By far a blue ribbon winner in this category.
