The Barna Group has given me new insight to how important children's ministry really is. Armed with this I have encouraged our church to make Children's ministry it's priority for the future.

Great book for Children's Ministry Directors and Parents

Barna's book was a great resource for me when I was a Children's Ministry Director. Not just another book based only on opinion but George Barna does his research to give valued data. I also found the book beneficial as a parent.
His book was one of the books that greatly influenced how I led the ministry.

Good team book

This book was not great, but it was pretty good. After browsing some of the other reviews on this book, I do agree with some of the more critical points. Some of his charts are difficult to interpret, at times you feel like you want him to explain further a major point, and a few of his conclusions are sweeping. But after being involved in ministry for as long as I have and after experiencing different approaches to children's ministry, I did find this book very helpful in that it observes key principles/benchmarks for doing children's ministry. It's a good team book: it's a quick read, and it has simple but comprehensive principles for your team to work out in more detail, especially for new ministries/teams. Also, it's a great team book because even if people on your team have similar criticisms like others here have, that actually provides an opportunity for dialogue on your team. Which is a good thing. In any case, he doesn't profess in the book to be an expert on kids ministry, so I don't think it's fair to assess him as we would someone else who is an expert. But it is good to have someone of his stature and someone "outside" of children's ministry to vouch for children's ministry in our churches. Because I have seen many churches that have lots of families but that do not invest in children's ministry at all. So I don't think it's the best book on children's ministry out there, but I think it's a must read for you and your team. Not great enough to be a 5, but not average enough for a 3. It's good.

Good Concise Case for Top-Notch Children's Ministry

Barna provides here a good, concise case for top-notch children's ministry. The information really isn't new to anyone who has read and studied on the subject. The greatest strength of this title is the gathering together of spiritual, statistical and sociological information into one small volume.

This book should be on every pastor's shelf, and would be a great help to anyone teaching children or working in a children's ministry.
