The Structure of Magic: A Book About Language and ...

This series is for the serious in depth learner and student of NLP. These are not self help books for the casual reader they are the kind of book most of us read a chapter of and then have to digest, read again, as these are text books..real text books.

That said, if you want to really understand communication then you want to read them, these boys are the big guns. You want to sell more real estate, read Tony Robbins, you want to be a great therapist, start here.

It's about math people!

This is a textbook about linguistics. It is not a guide on how to get women in bed, it's not really about NLP, it's about how to use language. Saying that, don't expect any of Bandler's trademark storytelling or the classic seminar style you see in most of his other work.

I am tempted to think that this guide is a little more frilly and fluffy than it appears at first. After all, there is a great deal of lead-up and preparation to the one "useful" chapter in the book, the one in which he describes the exact techniques, as well as a little bit of poorly executed case-study following after, with a dialog which seems a bit too unbelievable for me. Charts and diagrams can be found all over the place, adding to this unusual presentation of a topic which should be fairly easy to explain.

As it turns out, however, the majority of it probably is necessary. When reading this, keep in mind Bandler's history to that point: he's not a psycologist or a linguist; the man spent years studying engineering, mathematics, and computer programming. This is how he represents the world, and if you spend enough time looking at it, it does make sense that way.

If you've got a very logical mind, this book will be a tremendous help to you in learning how language works, and what we can do with a simple question or two. If not, you'll probably find it to be dull and overly simplistic, probably to a fault, and you should look elsewhere to learn about these linguistic tricks.

This is a good skill for theraptists to have, but using it too much will do nothing but make people angry at you. If you practice it, you'll find that out quite quickly.

Use as a text book

This book is the book that when wanting to learn about NLP this is the text book to learn. If you have never done anything in NLP I suggest that you take some litter material about the topic before you pick up this book. This book is in depth and the heart of NLP. Get the second volume too, as this one covers meta data with language, where the second book expands on it and helps you understand it better.

Classic NLP resource

Great wealth of material on the Meta Model, presented in a well organized format. Unlike so many NLP books that are seminar transcriptions, this book was written and organized and edited.

ACADEMIC TEXT

I would always recommend reading any BANDLER and GRINDER book AFTER you have been taught NLP.

This is a highly intelligent text about language and therapy. It examines different aspects microscopically and if you are not a natural reader, you might find this heavy going and there are other books which talk about these aspects more simply - however both Part I and Part II are comprehensive and ESSENTIAL for the serious NLP practitioner.

I love both this and the second one but their writing is academic so be aware that a little NLP knowledge is useful before tackling these .
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
