Cute.

This is a cute book and CD series. The CD only has two songs and not as entertaining as I hoped. I would just buy the book if I were to do it again. It's not our favorite children's book but a cute one.

Good book for toddlers too

My 2-year-old loves the Itsy Bitsy Spider song, so when I found this book, I thought it would be perfect for her. And it is. I can sing it or read it to her, and she loves finding the spider on each page and singing along with me. Although most of us are familiar with the first verse, there are actually multiple verses, which the author illustrates with vivid, colorful drawings.

My daughter isn't interested in the included cd, with its sing-along and page-turning cues, so the board book version may be the better option if you're buying for a toddler.

Another favourite

My daughter grew to really like me singing to her from this book when she was 17 months. Got the book from the library, ended up renewing it till we couldn't renew any more, and had to buy one. She loved looking for the spider on every page, and it was great fun singing more than the usual lines to her, about spider's pursuits. The best part was the end, when the "itsy bitsy spider rested in the sun" (the picture of the spider resting on its laurels wearing shades was so cool), and I taught my daughter to emulate the spider lazily lying back and say "ahh!", and she absolutely loved doing that as I sang this last line. Great book.

The Itsy Bitsy Spider

ISBN 1879085771 - If you're foolish enough to take on generations-old childrens' songs, you'd better do a very good job or expect to be tarred and feathered! I was, honestly, all set to hate this book... but Trapani did a fantastic job.

You know the story, you don't really need a recap. Spider, spout, rain, etc. Trapani, however, has added 5 new verses, giving our spider friend several new things to climb and obstacles to overcome. A fun way to add new life to a song you're likely to sing a million times before you're done!

I was unimpressed by the illustrations at first. They're nice, pleasant, okay... but then, I tilted the book and got a very happy surprise. In each illustration, there are areas that have a high gloss, making them appear to shine. Not the entire image, which would be overkill, but specific things. For example, when the rain washes the spider out, only the spider and some of the water has the gloss. It's a very minor but attractive little detail that transforms the images by giving them a little something extra. The music on the last page is another detail I really liked. Kudos to Trapani, may I stumble upon more of her work!

ISBN 1580890148 - I hadn't anticipated re-visiting this review but came across the board book edition today and felt compelled to add these couple notes: The board book lacks the glossy highlights in the illustrations, but does make up for it in another way. Rather than have the additional verses all tucked away in the back, they are all part of the text. This makes the book (therefore, the reading of the book by Mom or Dad) a bit longer and certainly that makes it more enjoyable! Even without the highlights, budding readers will love the illustrations, and the thicker pages make page-turning a little easier for small fingers. I stand by Kudos to Trapani, 100%!

The Itsy Bitsy Spider

My students loved this book. I introduced the nursery rhyme. I usually talk about the same rhyme for 2 weeks. On the 2nd week, I started reading the book each day. Great visuals! Very cute story additions to the traditional nursery rhyme.

The itsy-bitsy spider encounters a fan, a mouse, a cat, and a rocking chair as she makes her way to the top of a tree to spin her web. Includes music on the last page.
