You have to be careful with any Bible Handbook, but in my opinion Mr. Richards book is very insightful. In such a small volume (770 pgs), he provides a wealth of background information and study for every book of the Bible. I find it very, very useful in my search for understanding.

Richards' handbook is not a verse-by-verse commentary, but more of a section-by-section guide to interpreting scripture primarily from a Baptist perspective. It is well-written and fairly balanced. I'd give it 5 stars if it paid more attention to the deuterocanonical books, which are only mentioned briefly in a chapter entitled "Between the Testaments".
