Excellent description of an unknown biblical character
This book opened up the character and life of one of the least known women - Joanna who became a follower and supporter of Jesus. Her husband was employed by Herod and what interested me was that he was an arab and she a jew, he was a supporter of Herod and she a follower of Jesus. What an incredible witness she must have been inside the
court
of Herod. A well written, enjoyable and stimulating novel, one that I battled to put down.
Beginning in 3 BC the book spans 40 years of Jewish/Arabian/and Roman History. The main characters, Joanna and Chuza lived in the palace of Herod Antipas at the time of Christ. Real historical persons, Chuza was Herod's CEO, Joanna his wife. He was Arabian and she Jewish. They are caught between two cultures. The book begins with a Jewish rebellion and ends with a war between Herod Antipas and King Aretas of the Nabatean (Arabian) nation.
