the Waite deck done in Aquarian deck art

Love this deck, muted colores don't "scream" at you, this deck is very easy to learn, and I always shyed away from the original Waite or Rider Waite because something made me uncomfortable in the artwork. This clone deck is beautiful and has a very "soft" quality to it. It also does not stray from the symbolism, but presents a more gentle image.

Striking re-coloring of the traditional Rider Waite

This beautiful redrawing/coloring by Mary Hanson-Roberts of this most traditional deck is complete with a depth of color that many other versions of the same are lacking. If what you are seeking is a softer alternative to the bold colors and heavy black outlines of the "traditional" Rider deck, you've found it.

Interpreting this deck is like resting on a soft pillow. This is my original working deck, and is still my second working deck, after the Robin Wood. It's an excellent place for beginners to start. There's no wondering why the images created by Pamela Colman Smith are singularly the most popular in the world. These images are timeless and are traditionally known as being easy to read, as well as providing depth and insight for the more advanced.

This deck is pencil-colored with delicate, soft lines drawn around the faces and figures, and soothing rich colors within the cards. The backs are a fully reversible gold and indigo star field. The Fool in this deck is absolutely gorgeous with his gentle yellow sky and snuggly robe. The High Priestess is absolutely beautiful.

I found this deck to be excellent when coupled with "Learning the Tarot" by Joan Bunning, which uses the Universal Waite for illustrations. This book gives a solid grounding in how to read Tarot, and along with this deck, you will be well on your way!

Always the deck I choose

I love this deck. I learned how to read on the Rider Waite deck, and when I discovered the Universal Waite, I was amazed at the difference. All of the colors and details are so much more enhanced with this deck. I have several decks, but really use this one over and over again. It's a classic. I love what the illustrated did to the colors and fleshing out the details, especially of peoples faces. Highly recommended.

LOL! I am so glad to find other people dislike the original as much as I do!

I am particularly in agreement with the reviewer who states, "To me reading them was like trying to absorb road directions from an incoherent person who was hitting you over the head with a board!" regarding the original Rider Waite. I never really liked the original because of the strange colors and the bizarre expressions the characters all have! Additionally, the horses are really badly drawn, and as a horse-woman, I find that very annoying. The smoother style of the Universal deck resolves these problems pretty well (although I still wonder if the horse in the 6 of wands is a pantomime horse!) This is not my favorite deck, but I do use it about once a week, and I find it pleasant.

The serene Universal Waite Tarot is perfect for meditation and readings. The deck is a soothing, eye-appealing complement to the traditional Rider-Waite deck. The drawings of Pamela Colman Smith have been beautifully re-colored by Mary Hanson Roberts.
