Very interesting and informative
I pour through hundreds of nutritional books, looking for the little gem from each one. This one's main gem was the importance of good bacteria and how are bacteria-phobia has created disease. His message of taking soil organisms in supplement form is very valuable.
The only thing I disagree with is his insistence
that
we need meat. Cooked meat has especially been proven to be toxic. At least he emphasizes the need for grass-fed animals as opposed to factory farmed grain-fed ones.
The "how to get sick" chapter is one that all Americans need to read.

To say
that
this book saved my
life would
not be an overstatement. I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease nearly three years ago at age 23. The doctors put me on Remicade (which I stopped breathing during an infusion), Entocort (steriod - so can't take that
forever
), and Pentasa (which made me throw up for a week and a half straight - couldn't hold down even liquid meal replacement shakes). This was over a time period of about 9 months. I had lost 15 pounds, been on liquid
diet
s, and passed out twice in my apartment alone due to what I can only assume was malnutrition. None of the medicine helped. Finally, I had had enough. My mom found this book, and I decided (against my doctor's advice) to get off all medication and try this diet. About two weeks into the diet, I began to feel so much better. After completing the 40
day diet
, I was completely restored. It has been almost two years now that I have not been on any medication, with NO symptoms of Crohn's whatsoever. I follow Phase 3 of the diet most of the time since I completed the original 40 days, but I do cheat once or twice a week. I also did the diet again for 40 days a year after I initially did it. I really do not know where I would be without having found this book and this diet. Probably in a hospital somewhere. The point is, no matter if you have Crohn's or any other disease (that they claim is "incurable"), or if you are just looking to lead a
healthier life
, this is the book for you. I'm not one to write reviews, but seriously, this book
change
d my life. If you're still not convinced, put it this way... it can't hurt to try it.

Miracle cure stories abound when it comes to natural healing. A super nutrient reverses cancer after chemotherapy has failed. A Chinese herb lowers high blood pressure in a patient with heart disease after being dismissed as quackery by doctors. Jordan S. Rubin?s account of returning from the medical abyss, however, includes an original twist. After several years of battling Crohn?s Disease, which included a small fortune spent on both conventional and alternative treatments, as well as trips abroad in search of help, Rubin weighed only 111 pounds and, at just age 21, thought his
life
was over. At the urging of his father, a naturopath, he contacted an obscure nutritionist in California promoting a
diet based
on the teachings of the Bible. Yes, we?re talking what Jesus ate: kefir, lamb, sprouted breads, eggs and meat from free-range chickens, and plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Rubin also started to pray and added a new powder supplement containing homeostatic soil organisms (HSOs) to his diet. Four months later he weighed 170 lbs and was on the road back to his former athletic and
healthy self
. Inspired by his experience, and now with advanced degrees in nutrition and naturopathic medicine, Rubin has crafted The Maker?s Diet. While the faithful
will surely
find the book of interest, Rubin?s command of the scientific issues underpinning his recommendations may also appeal to those more accustomed to studying food labels in search of what to eat than ancient religious texts. --Patrick Jennings
