Will she be prevented from getting into high-school because of the quota preventing Jewish children from attending, even if she passes the entrance examination?
Will her teacher Shayndel's revolutionary activities get everyone into trouble?
Meanwhile her friend Leibel has plans to migrate to the Land of Israel, then known as 'Palestine' and part of the Ottoman Empire.
Set against the backdrop of the impending
Russian Revolution, pogroms and discrimination against Jews, as well as the move of Jews back to their ancient homeland in Israel, Rifka will soon migrate to America.
