Wonderful, original book and trilogy

I have enjoyed reading the entire trilogy many times over the years. These are 3 books I'll never part with. Many will give a pseudo-intellectual critique both good and bad, but to me it's just a fun, world to visit over and over.

Black Sun Rising

This is my second reading and it still holds up. I read it many years ago as a teenager and while it isn't the most polished book I've ever read and could have used a serious edit, I still love it. Plot: excellent, characters: very good, world and background are ok. If CS had more support this novel could have been one of the best SciFi novels ever written. With all it's cliches, plot errors and blatant rewrite foul ups! It's still a treat and well worth reading.

Solid and Enjoyable Fantasy

This isn't the most deep book that was ever written, but it doesn't need to be. It is a sold, good story with great characters. I enjoyed every minute of this and the two subsequent books in the series.

Remembered this series after 8 years

I was browsing my recommendations on Amazon and saw this flagged as something I might like and all of a sudden I remembered reading it years ago. This series stands out among all of the fantasy I've read. Someone else mentioned the vagueness of good and evil with the characters which is definitely true but it just makes you want to keep reading and finding out more and more. You get to the end and the author doesn't tell you what to think but leaves it up to you. If you're looking for standard epic fantasy then this series isn't for you but if you want a break from magic and dragons (not that they're bad, I know I've read enough several people's fair share and still love em) then this is for you. I would get into more detail but the plot summaries do that well enough. My main motivation for this was seeing the top review being three stars, which I cannot help but wholeheartedly disagreeing with. If there was a 6th star I'd give it.

The Coldfire trilogy tells a story of discovery and battle against evil on a planet where a force of nature exists that is capable of reshaping the world in response to psychic stimulus. This terrifying force, much like magic, has the power to prey upon the human mind, drawing forth a person's worst nightmare images or most treasured dreams and indiscriminately giving them life. This is the story of two men: one, a warrior priest ready to sacrifice anything and everything for the cause of humanity's progress; the other, a sorcerer who has survived for countless centuries by a total submission to evil. They are absolute enemies who must unite to conquer an evil greater than anything their world has ever known.
