A Case before the jury

The New Answers Book
Ken Ham makes a good case for Young Earth Creationism in this book. The purely scientific explanations are geared for the novice understanding. These parts are clear, simple, and short enough to serve as good introductions to the topics. Of course, when I say Ken makes a good case, I mean that in the sense of a lawyer making his case to a jury. A lawyer presenting his case will stress the indisputable facts strongly, present the view that he wants the jury to take with great finesse, and gloss over or totally ignore the things that destroy or weaken his case. Who is really shocked that Ken would treat Creationism as a case before a jury? Regarding Creationism, Ken simply has to play to the predisposition of many of the jurors to believe the English translation of Genesis ch. 1 as it is interpreted to them by people they trust implicitly. Then, by feeding the predisposition of these jurors to be suspiscious of the evidence of main-stream science because of God-denying interpretations attached to it, Ken is able to further isolate the minds of the jury. Do a word-search of a good, English translation of the Bible and see how many times words are used like: wisdom, knowledge, understanding, discern, or to see or hear with understanding. You should begin to see that God wants our minds engaged as well as our faith. It is reckless faith to trust a self-proclaimed authority without checking things out. Paul was undoubtedly an authority, but the Bereans still checked out what he was telling them by searching the scriptures. To check out what Ken writes in this book, you will need to search out rebuttals by conservative Christians. Weigh what they say about all aspects of Christian faith and understanding before you trust what they say, as well. Be discerning, and be guided by the evidence of God's revelation, foremost of which is the Bible. By the way, it would be good if you could learn Hebrew and ponder the danger of so easily reading into the text what we think is reasonable common sense. God did not reveal every detail of Creation in Genesis ch.1 because physical creation was simply the stage for the drama and not the drama itself.
