A story about surviving the hell that was the Eastern Front in WWII
This underappreciated book should be a classic, but most WWII and history buffs don't seem to be familiar with it. This book was written by a
Panzer Grenadier
(Mechanized Infantry who rode on the backs of tanks) who fought on the Russian Front during WWII and by the small details and descriptions you can believe it.
Some of the stuff these guys must have had to go through is unreal. It makes you wonder how the guys who did survive this managed to hang on to their sanity in some of the most brutal fighting that's ever happened on Earth.
It's worth the money just for the personal descriptions that this guy no doubt saw some of himself. He also wrote another book called "Barbarossa" which is also excellent. This is actually a prequel to that book, even though I actually read that one first.
