A well written account of Texas in the 1920's.

I read this book the semester before I met Dr. Brown and it was the main reason I took his classes. The time period he writes about is full of villians and demagogues with the occasional hero inserted for dramatic effect. Dr. Brown is an avid student of Robert Penn Warren and the deceased professor's influence is obvious in Dr. Brown's writing style. I recomend this book to anyone interested in Texas history or just great writing. Both are abundant. If you like Robert Penn Warren or C. Vann Woodward, and you should, then you will enjoy this book.
