A great book to be read by new aspiring (drawing) artists.

The tips and individual descriptions of items on the book provide inspiration, making drawing easier and more interesting.

excellent drawings, instruction and technique.

This book is a wonderful resource tool that I would recommend for any aspiring student. It is different than any figure drawing book I have seen because it is full of outstanding drawings, which cover different medias, techniques and approaches--without using stick figures, and basic shapes. These drawings are taken from the studio, from realistic, natural poses. The comments on each study follow the steps Mr. Ambrus has taken, and are thoughtful, insightful, and easy to understand.

This is not a How To book!, but a collection of Victor Ambrus Fantastic Figure Drawings!

...Dont buy this book expecting a How To, on all his anatomy secrets, its just a great portfolio of the Masters Drawings done from life.
If you are a serious artist and want to learn how to draw the figure, study these drawings, Copy them and find out what he is doing Right, and then put it into practice in your own work.
DRAW EVERYTHING AROUND YOU!!...and then you will appreciate what a superb artist he is and how this book is a treasure trove!
P.S. See also his drawings from the "Time Team" Series, from the UK, , entitled, "Recreating the Past", A great book with some amazing reconstructional scenes from Norse Burial grounds to Monastary's and Castles!

You don't have to be an artist to like this book

This book contains many beautiful drawings that illustrate the techniques in expressing the human figure. True, it is not an instructional book in that it does not provide step-by-step instructions to arrive at an end result. Nonetheless, Ambrus's comments revealed a bit of the workings of his mind as he approached his subjects, and they provide a good deal of insight into the how these drawings are put together, such as which parts of a figure in each case are most attention-demanding, etc.

This book is an excellent reference for the artist. Its drawings are so beautiful and plentiful that it also belongs on the coffee table!
