glad I bought this one

I just received this book on knitted hat patterns, and from what I can see it contains *very* nice hat patterns. No goofy hats, pretty well every hat featured is one I would like to knit and give away as a gift. Although I have not tried any of the patterns, and therefore can't complain about sizing etc, I know that that won't be a problem for me because I plan to knit each hat from the top down. I can gauge the size as I go and use whatever wool I like. Because every hat pattern is for circular knitting, it will be easy to adapt each to my top down approach. So based on all of this, I agree with others in rating this hat book highly. I don't plan on looking for another book for knitted hats, this one will do me just fine.

Good patterns

I have made 2 hats from patterns in this book now, and I am very pleased with them. The patterns are very attractive and the directions are well done.

My favorite hat book!!

This one book includes patterns for many hat styles. My favorite, and I have many.

My Favorite Hat Book

I have been knitting for several years now and all that time I had been looking for my ideal hat book, and this was it! I particularly was looking for more traditional nordic patters--I'm a MN Scandinavian--and this book actually contained more than one (plus a number of other lovely designs inspired by other peoples and regions). I've knit more patterns from this book than I have for any other knitting or crochet books in my library. The patterns are clearly written and tremendous fun to knit. I'm also impressed by the crown patterns done while decreasing. Overall, a fantastic book.

trad knitting

The patterns are classic, and in Norway we all have hats like this. So the book is very useful. I have observed that the Norwegian sweaters and patterns are coming into fashion again, so this book can get a new life. My fifth star would have been shining if the author had used thicker yarn, 23-26 st per 10 cm is more "normal" for this kind of garments. It makes them warmer and the pattern easier to knit.
Tips: Some patterns show a section of a hat to repeat: Easily you can knit mittens using one section of a hat -- with my gauge!

Caps are wonderful knitting projects--small and portable, providing just the right mix of challenge and simplicity. From the basic watch cap to fanciful multicoloured and textured creations, knitters will be enticed by the intriguing diversity of style and technique: double-, triple-, and quadruple-thicknesses for warmth and weather resistance; hats with earflaps, ornamental cuffs, and jester's tassles; and even ornaments to hang from the Christmas tree.
