excellent tool

This book is narrowly focused. It presents the notated score and the CD rendition of 28 country music piano riffs. Some of the riffs are several bars long. Some are a page of notation.

It is an intelligently selected collection broken down into: 1) fills and embillishment; 2) turnarounds; 3) tags; 4) comping patterns; and 5) extended breaks. These simplified tools can be elaborated into many different styles including honkey tonk, ballads, gospel etc.. Care has been taken to provide different time signatures and rhythms.

Although many of the riffs are quite simple, they are highly musical.

The recording is clear and well engineered. An extra measure is counted off in the beginning of each selection.

Overall, a very useful book for the beginner, intermediate or accompilished pianist who wants to directly acquire a repetoire of country styles. My only complaint is that I wish there was more.
