just what I needed

I am in the process of rebuilding two 1966 Chevy cars and
this book not only told me how to do it but also the exact
tolerances to set. It will come in very useful.

Rebuilding Big Block Chevy's

This book was an excellent, step by step manual on how to rebuild any big block chevy engine. It was extremely helpful to me as i rebuilt my 454h.o. engine and also bored it .030 over. I'd recommend this book to anyone who is interested in engines, doing an engine rebuild currently, or anyone who likes mechanics! Just a fabulous manual! Go Chevy!

Pretty good but not great.

I'm doing a partial rebuild on my 454. I picked up this book because I know next to nothing about rebuilding motors. This book gives a pretty thorough walk-through, beginning with removing the block, stripping it down, taking it to the machine shop and reassembling it.

There's good information in the book. My main gripe is the author assumes you'll be reusing most of the same components that you started with. I had planned to put a hotter cam in the motor and I know I need to check the clearance between valves and piston...none of this is covered. He just says slap the heads back on.

This is another book that will probably be nice to have around if you're a beginner.

How To Rebuild Your Big Block Chevy

This book was quite informative to those of us who have never rebuilt a big block. I have several small block's under my belt, but no big blocks, thus my need for written guidance. The only negative I found was there could have been more part to part comparisons, i.e., starters, fuel pumps, air cleaners, carbs, etc.. The book was very detailed save the items I just mentioned. If you must tackle a Big block I strongly recommend this book.

Quality content orderly presented without leaving out detail

Wilson's book presents a step by step how to rebuild your BBC without being an "upscale" list of bullet points. His presentation, while perhaps a bit grammatically insensitive, appeals to people who won't mind getting their hands dirty taking on their own rebuild project. I recommend Tom's book for anyone considering a rebuild of their Big Block Chevy. You won't find hot rodding performance tips here, but you'll come away with all the practical knowledge needed to work through it on your own. The one piece of advice I'd add to the book is that you use an oil pump primer to spin up your oil pump before first starting your newly rebuilt motor.
