THIS BOOK BY GUTMANIS BASICALLY OUTLINES THE HOLISTIC KAHUNA PRACTICE BY INCORPORATING BODY, MIND, SPIRIT, AND NATURE WITH HEALING. IT IS VERY INSIGHTFUL AND REFERENCED WELL. IT IS A MUST HAVE FOR ANYONE STUDYING HAWAIIAN MEDICINE OR MEDICAL ANTHROPOLOGY. AN EXCELLENT WORK FOR ACADEMICS AND TOURISTS ALIKE. SIMPLY SUPERB.

Wonderful resource

This book is a must-have for anyone interested in Hawaiian history, culture, botany or healing practices. It is about the medical practices of the ancient and modern native healers, but it places those practices in the context of history, environment and culture. With it's copious footnotes and extensive bibliograpy, it is an excellent starting place for research into many other areas. I have read it three times cover to cover, and always find something new and interesting.
