Hip & Hot!!!

Very hip, very hot, and very helpful! I just finished reading this amazing book! It answers a lot of the questions that I didn't even know I had! It's very inspiring and gave me a ton of new ideas. It's part textbook, part novel, and 100% good! It's also written in a manner that keeps my attention. If you are young, hip, hot, and want to review the basics of safe sexuality and learn new ideas in the process this is a great read!!! I can't wait for the next book!

Great read...

This book is so fun! My boyfriend and I got it from the library. It wasn't necessarily the safe sex part that interested us (as we're completely monogomous), but more the fun and upbeat way in which practical sex tips are conveyed. I read it cover to cover in one night... and even learned a few things! Now my boyfriend is reading it. I can tell already that this book has helped to rekindle a bit of the sexy flame in our 2.5 year relationship. Definitely pick this book up!

Good Book

I had the pleasure of having the author as an instructor in graduate school and all I can say is WOW!!! The book provided so much information and it should be a must read in high school health classes.

Review of The Hot Guide to Safer Sex: The Ideas You Want, the Information You Need to Keep It Sexy and Safe When You're "Doin the Deed" (Positively Sexual) (THGSS)

This book was a fluid read, not too difficult, technical, or offending. I've read several books and they may make a mention in passing topics regarding safe sex, but not near into the depth of THGSS and it answered one question that I wanted to know that everyone else seemed to gloss over.

It started out with some Anatomy and the Sexual Response Cycle, may sound dull here, but it puts things in the same framework so we might know what a perineum is or the difference between the urethral and vaginal openings.

Then Solo-sex, Orgasm for men and women and all the multi-combinatorial gasms there are. The addition of fantasy, and how this creates additional and amazing senseations as well is introduced here, tantric principles without being woo woo. Note, Solo sex or sex without a partner IS the safest sex you can have.

Then sex is complicated by adding more than one into the sexual mix. Attraction thru "The One" and all love relationships in between, including flings, cheating and threesomes. This section is very well written and guides the reader to think about where they fit into the picture, how to determine and express personal boundaries and what you will and will not conspire to be.

In the context of safe sex, the differences between (Sexually Transmitted Infections) STI's and Pregnancy prevention methods are discussed. I think this is highly misunderstood by the younger more experimental generation (at least more so than when I was a youngster.... Late bloomer I know!)

Many ideas are presented to increase your own and partner(s) pleasure, but important specifics are discussed regarding personal boundaries, being open and honest and communicating, how can you let go if you are "afraid" of getting pregnant or transmitting or receiving an STI.

Toys, toy safety and cleaning and multiorgasmic treats are discussed candidly and openly, if you don't know how to use something well.... You don't have to be in the dark anymore.

Finally, a discussion of how drugs can have a super influence on the rest of the book going out the window. What different drugs do and don't do for your sex life and the rumors associated with each. Overall, I interpreted it to be that if your mind is altered, you cannot be present with your partner. There is no intimacy = INTO ME YOU SEE. As the drugs lessen your ability to be present, and being present, self-expressed and free is the highway to really Really HOT SEX.

So I don't need a glass of wine to loosen up, there are way too many risks, being blamed of rape, the evolutionary predispositions of what alcohol does to men and women separately. And the conflict of expectations regarding what each partner has, whereas if they were just present and open to their self-expression, letting go is way more powerful method of sexual expression.

My personal question, being a guy who loves going down on a woman, what are my risks of being gifted an STI. The risks are low, but still present, so I think I'll put a roll of saran wrap in my top drawer with the other protective items.
