Pop music meets the statistician

These Billboard chart books are a fun read for pop music fans who are too young to recall the years in question firsthand. Of particular interest to me are the charts from the '50s and early '60s. It's amazing how quickly some records rise to the top of the charts, and how some of them drop like a rock after their time has passed. These books are pricey, and are probably of interest mainly to those who are into statistics, but it's nice to be able to get a look at the musical lay of the land at specific points in time. These books may not be for everybody, for several reasons, but I like them.

Another must-have from Joel Whitburn

Despite its xerox-quality pages, this fifties book differs from the other books in its series. The book shows how pop charts during the fifties evolved in its format from year to year. It's also great how each chart page was duplicated exactly the way it first appeared in Billboard original issue. It is also something to enjoy, seeing each page with ads and promos in the very old-fashioned graphics.

This is a week by week chronicle of 1955 thru 1959's pop music hits. These charts are reproduced exactly as they originally appeared in Billboard Magazine. Advertisments from the magazine are also included.
