Fantastic History of an SS Mountain Infantry Division
This is an excellent account of a little known SS formation that was equipped with mostly captured weapons, but gave a good account of itself in fierce no-quarter combat with Tito's partisan army and, later, the Red Army.
Unlike most German
mountain units
, this one was employed in mountainous terrain and fought with distinction until the day it surrendered. Mules were more valuable than panzers in the mountains, and the reader is given an appreciation for the hardships endured by men and beasts in the unforgiving terrain and weather under fire. Few of the men who served in this unit survived the war or their postwar imprisonment.

Prinz Eugen
The book is good, however, as it is a translation, it can be a bit slow at times. As far as I can tell this is the only
history
of the 7 th SS Mountian
Division
"
Prinz
Eugen
" available in English. A must have for those interested in the Waffen SS of WW2 in general.
The
History
of the 7th SS
Mountain
Division
"
Prinz
Eugen
" (Otto Kumm). Hard cover, small format (6"x9"), 352 pages, 70 photographs, 24 maps (3 in color). This tough SS mountain division fought in Yugoslavia in a vicious war against Tito?s partisans and, later in the war, regular Russian troops in some of the harshest terrain imaginable. Many of the place names, such as Sarajevo and Mostar, are familiar to anyone who followed the vicious conflict in Bosnia. This well-written and detailed history is complete in one volume.
