A Complete Charmer!

So many children's books, and especially guidebooks, these days seem packaged by marketing teams or chambers of commerce, and look like they were illustrated with stock photos or computer clip art. But Sally Smith's Rosebud combines beautiful, original, and humor-filled paintings with a delightful narrative that will make kids forget they are actually learning about a historic place. Following Rosebud on her journey from the country to the city, as she gallops so longingly after a carrot truck, is an absolute joy. Watching her try to disguise herself under a hat is a delight. Smith, who writes that the story began as she told her own children stories on long car trips, has obviously lavished upon Rosebud the same talent and love so evident in her paintings. I was given this book as a gift and plan on giving it myself to most kids I know-there's no need to even visit Charleston to adore Rosebud and her tale. It's a classic.

Rosebud Roams Charleston

What a delightful book! I can't wait to share it with my grandchildren. The imagination of the story and the original paintings on each page makes you wish for more. How else would you have a country horse like Rosebud find her way to her dream city of Charleston than behind a "great big truck of juicy orange carrots." Or what expression on Rosebud's face could you come up with more delightful as she contemplates the "slide down the amazing banister in The Nathaniel Russell House." Sally Smith does a wonderful job of letting your imagination soar as she and Rosebud take you roaming through Charleston. I am looking forward to enjoying this gem many times over.

Rosebud Roams Charleston

A charming look at historic Charleston . . . all from the eyes of Rosebud, a polite pony. Seriously beautiful artwork makes this read as delightful for adults as it is for children!

Sally rocks!

This book is truly a masterpiece of postmodern children's literature. And besides, the author is an amazing person.

Five Stars for Rosebud!

Rosebud is a new children's classic no matter what city you live in. The author showcases her incredible artistic talents not only through the words she writes, but in the illustrations she creates. We loved every page!
