An Outside the Box Book
Bissonnette has a dynamic way of presenting
job
development
that challenges the reader to think outside the box. The format, including layout, is logical and readable which makes it easy to grasp the concepts. Information presented in this text is not just the
traditional scope
of job development, but ventures into the creation of job opportunities. Bissonnette accomplishes this by describing the important components and then giving, in some cases, step-by-step instructions on how to plan and execute the development of these opportunities. The utility of this book goes
beyond most
"how to" books and is useful for a variety of audiences - from job development professionals to individuals seeking help in
creating their
own jobs. I've used this book in a course I teach within a master's program in rehabilitation counseling. Several students have made favorable comments about this book -- Beyond Traditional Job Development : The
Art
of Creating
Opportunity

Denise is our GURU! A truly creative thinker.
Since the first time we read this book over 10 years ago we were inspired and challenged to finally be able to think in non-
traditional ways
to help people with mental and physical handicaps become employed!
Traditional methods don't work for the people we support, we know that. Finally we have a guide to point us in the non traditional direction. It has changed the way we do our
job
s and we have been very successful at helping people with huge challenges or barriers to employment, become employed.
This book by Denise Bissonnette is actually written into our company policy manual as a basic job requirement for all staff, right along with a drivers license and a first aid certificate. We feel it is at least as important as these things. Thank you Denise, your book continues to inspire those of us actually working the front lines to help people become employed!

Step out of the box and help customers create opportunity!
Bissonnette's book and cassettes are a resource that I use frequently in my role as
job developer
. Although she targets job-hunters with disabilities, Bissonnette's "employment proposal" can be used by any job-seekers - adults, students, dislocated workers, and career-changers. These approaches are solid, easily implemented, effective, and empowering for my customers; lots of information, ideas, inspiration, and simple, effective strategies to help customers to actually create their jobs by learning how to discover opportunities for employment by analyzing their skills and employers' needs.

Out of Touch With Reality
What a joy to read this book! It is so full of sugar-coated sentiments and feel-good euphemisms. And then finally you have to put the fantasy book down and re-enter the real world where people are standing in line at the pawn shop, selling their wedding rings just so they can get food to feed their children that day. Where truckers are selling their CB radios just so they can buy gas to make their run. The woman who wrote this book is no CEO. She is no President of anything. She is a housewife dancing through the trees: I "fell helplessly under the spell of the redwoods by the sea..." She's probably going to end up being a bag lady if she isn't careful. I would give more credit to a CEO or an old fox who wrote a
job book
than this housewife. What are her credentials? The ability to save and publish every witty thing stuck to the refrigerator?
