Reap the Whirlwind

Douglas De Bono has written another well researched and entirely plausible international thriller populated by lifelike characters about China storing nuclear missiles in Panama, within striking distance of the U.S., leaving it up to the usual cast of characters to straighten things out. The author clearly knows his material on all matters pertaining to intelligence agencies, security services, and military technology. The last quarter of the book is one of the most tense and suspenseful bits of writing compared to anything recently published in the genre, and the story itself is one of the more realistic U.S. vs China scenarios to have come along. Anyone who likes the pace of Tom Clancy and the factual background based stories of Frederick Forsyth will enjoy de Bono's series.

December 1999, the United States relinquishes control of the Panama Canal. The Chinese-owned Panama Ports Company assumes control and a veil of secrecy descends over the strategic waterway. A clandestine mission to China?s Fujian province discovers that most of the missiles pointed at Taiwan are dummies. CIA analyst Jonas Benjamin suspects the missing missiles are being shipped to Panama on Chinese container ships. He sets out for the Panama Zone to confirm his suspicions but disappears. Against a mosaic of unforgettable characters, where nothing is as it seems, the forces of greed, power, avarice, fear, and honor collide in a race against time.
