The end to a great story (Vigilante Book One)

I have to say, even though it's obvious Kirby Jonas has improved since this book, it still deserves a solid five stars. (His others need a six!) This was a great ending to the first book, which left me on the edge of the proverbial seat wondering what would happen to this character, Tappan Kittery. I hope you all will give Kirby Jonas a shot. He's far and away my favorite Western author. Brings tears to my eyes several times in every book.

--James Drury

Good writer telling a good story

The plot keeps moving with plenty of action. The writer has a real knack for describing the country and the reality of life on the frontier in 1876. For a western fan you can't ask for much more. My only criticism is that some of the secondary characters do not come alive. But that did not keep me from enjoying the book and I will definitely read the other novels by this author.

Unless you have a six star rating...

What an explosive ending to Season of the Vigilante Book One, which I read quite a while ago. If you followed Tappan Kittery chasing the Desperados Eight down, you won't want to miss it when he finds them and teaches them a thing or two. But while he's doing it he almost loses his sweetheart and his soul. Couldn't have ended any better!

They don't call this guy The New Louis L'Amour for nothing!

I don't know why this book hasn't had any reviews listed before now. What a great book! Tappan Kittery quickly became one of my favorite characters of all time and led me to want to read ALL of Kirby Jonas's book, which I quickly did. I couldn't put any of them down. But this particular book, with its message of good conquering over evil, was different than a Louis L'Amour or a Zane Grey book. In this one, Jonas's bad guys are just as human as his good guys, and vice versa. You come to see what Savage Diablo Baraga and his cohorts did what they did. They were turned sour by a horrific war that they could never overcome. They aren't just bad to be bad. There are reasons! The thing I loved so much about "The New Louis L'AMour's" book over Louis L'AMour is the emotion involved. This guy knows how to pull you in and make you fall in love with these people. And he puts you skillfully in the middle of the searing Arizona desert with the suffocating knowledge that YOU are the one surrounded by those Apaches in that arroyo, that YOU are the man looking for Marshal Joe Raines when he has gone out to meet his doom. I can't say enough good about Kirby Jonas. I hope somehow he starts putting out two or three books a year, because I will read them all!

Season's End is the story of Captain Tappan Kittery. He has become a vigilante against his will to track down and bring to justice "The Desperados Eight," led by the vicious Savage Diablo Baraga. At the end of a trail of violence and bloodshed, Kittery finds a secret that has been hidden from him for years, and his life is saved by a very unforeseen friend.
