Refreshing Read
I bought this to read during a Riviera Maya vacation. Not the type of book I would typically select - but I was pleasantly surprised! Couldn't put it down. I thought the writing was fine. I plan to read another book by this author. Did count about 3 glaring typos - all of which should have been caught in editing.
Great Book!
I read "A
Tourist
in the
Yucatan
" while on vacation in the Riveria Maya area. Made for a great book and even made me get off the resort and beach and go visit some of the places talked about in the book. I highly recommend this book.

Nothing Boring here!
I read this book a couple years ago after seeing it recommended in my Lonely Planet guide book for the
Yucatan
(Regional Guide). It looked interesting, a thriller set in the local of my pending vacation. I loved the book! but I was a bit distressed to see some of the mean spirited reviews posted here, so I thought I better put a good word in for one of my favorite thriller reads.
This is the fast paced, and suspenseful story of Jack and Josephine Phillips who are on an adventure vacation on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula when things go wrong. Josephine vanishes and Jack finds himself on the run from the law. At the same time there is a parallel story line set in Washington DC involving The DEA and State Department and the assassination of some politicos. The way the author brings the two story lines together is ingenious. What really made the book for me however was the settings in the Yucatan. I visited the ancient ruin sites described in the story and I could imagine scenes from the story taking place. The author does a great job of putting the reader in the Mexican jungle in the Mayan cities...I know, I have been there!
I do see some complaints about the editing of the book, typo's et cetera. I did not find this to be the case. I did a little research and found that the initial release of this book was through a publisher Hollis Books in 2000. Evidently that release was very poorly edited. My 2004 version by Tres Picos Press appeared well edited to me. I recommend you try the "search inside the book feature" and read some sample pages, I think you'll find it well written. Not High literature by any means, but a great beach read!
