Good Content But Not Very Inspired

As an avid reader of personal growth and holistic health books for over 30 years, I thought it was time to finally read one of Wayne Dyer's books. Somehow his titles had not attracted my attention enough in the past to persuade me to buy one. I loved the title of this book and knowing what a force he has become in the field of personal development, I was ready for something great.

I agree in theory with many of the concepts presented in this book. Yet I found contradictions that didn't make sense. For example, in his 12-step program to simplicity in Chapter 8, step 9 says "Do everything you can to eschew debt" and step 10 says to "Forget about the Cash Value". Not only do these seem contradictory, but they really don't work for most people unless they are largely financially independent.

At the end of each chapter he has a section called "Some Suggestions for Putting the Ideas in this Chapter to Work for You". I found his suggestions to be rather bland and theoretical, without much more practical application than the chapters he applied them to.

I really wanted to love this book but to be honest, I would have to say it is rather generic. He quotes so many others throughout the book, and some of the quotes are great, but he lacks inspiring quotes of his own (no pun intended).

I try to finish any book I start but found myself eager to get through with this one. It just didn't have that special something that would make it unique and great. It seemed mostly to be a recital of the author's lifestyle, preferences, good deeds and celebrity connections. In addition, I found the tone of writing to be a bit condescending.

This book is good but not special. The parts I enjoyed most were the numerous quotes from other authors or thinkers, not the words of the author himself.

Much more inspiring, I believe, are Conversations With God : An Uncommon Dialogue (Book 2), Happier Than God: Turn Ordinary Life into an Extraordinary Experience or The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment.

Moonstone Star White is the author of High Way from Hell: Using Emotion to Fan the Fire of Enlightenment.

You Need This Man in Your Life!!!

Wayne Dyer is one of the most iconic self-help gurus of my time for a good reason. First, he possesses good, old-fashioned common sense. Second, he has an excellent grasp of some of the most fundamental concepts of spiritual and metaphysical enlightenment - his thoughts on intention (also referred to as, "thinking things up," are widely embraced (check out Scott Adams' notions on the matter in, "THE DILBERT FUTURE," where he talks about writing your intentions down on paper and seeing them come to fruition!). Dr. Dyer has, literally, changed my life. I make it a point to read or listen to something he's produced at least several times per week. My life is nowhere near perfection at this point, but I can assure you, it's far better than it used to be. (Here's a hint: I was once homeless on the streets of Hollywood, CA - I am now a happily married suburbanite with a beautiful son and a promising future!) At the very least, Dr. Dyer has provided me, and many others, with words of affirmation and reassurance in these trying times. If you have questions, you can't go wrong by giving him a chance. This book certainly delivers what millions have been waiting to hear! Maybe what YOU would like to hear, as well...?? I heartily recommend!

Inspirational, Complete, and Hits the Spot!

I read a lot of the reviews before I purchase books. That's one of the reasons why I shop on Amazon rather than going to the bookstore.

What makes me sad is that you have people like Wayne Dyer who dedicate their lives to trying to help others and you have negative reviewers who just want to squash those efforts. I don't think I could help people because people don't appreciate your efforts. They just want to kick you and criticize you. For the most part, people don't deserve to be helped to begin with. I know, it sounds hard but it's what I believe now.

I liked this book. I've read all of Dyer's books and this one (along with the 10 Secrets to Success) is one of my favorites. In the past I've had trouble reading and/or digesting his material because it tends to be very heavy. But this book was lighter, easy to read, and really was inspiring.

The only thing I didn't like which seems uncharacteristic of Dyer was that he kept mentioning all of his do-gooder deeds such as buying an employee a van, buying berries at a market for a stranger, giving someone a ride, etc. I think he was trying to illustrate unconditional giving but the way it was written made it seem like he was looking for a pat on the back. That type of writing from Dyer is rare and unusual for me to read. As they say, you lose your blessings when you tell the world of the good deeds you do for others.

Otherwise, it's a very good read, incredibly inspirational, and if you're looking for a good book to put you back on the 'path' then this is the one you need. If you feel lost or don't know what you're doing with your life, read this book.

Peace...

There?s a voice in the universe calling each of us to remember our purpose?our reason for being here now, in this world of impermanence. The voice whispers, shouts, and sings to us that this experience of being in form, in space and time, knowing life and death, has meaning. The voice is that of inspiration, which is within each and every one of us.     In this groundbreaking book, Dr. Wayne W. Dyer explains how we?ve chosen to enter this world of particles and form. From our place of origin, in ways that we don?t readily comprehend now, we knew what we were coming here to accomplish, and we participated in setting this life process in motion. So why not think this same way? Why put the responsibility or blame on any one or any thing that?s not a part of us? On Earth we have the capacity of volition?we can choose?so let?s assume that we had the same capacity when we resided in the spiritual realm. We chose our physical body, and we chose the parents we needed for the trip. It doesn?t seem too great a stretch to move into the idea that we chose this life in concert with our Source.     Each chapter in this book is filled with specifics for living an inspired life. From a very personal viewpoint, Wayne Dyer offers a blueprint through the world of spirit to inspiration, your ultimate calling.
