Scott Bender's writing is better than drinking Blatz!

Although I have to confess that I was drinking a lot of prescription cough syrup the whole time I was reading Mr. Bender's masterpiece, I think it was the most original piece of
literature I'd seen since a young J.D. Salinger burst onto the scene in the early 1950's. I particularly enjoyed the subtle
love story of the minor characters "ChopDog" and his "ol' lady
Stace." Whereas Ryan O'Neal & Ali McGraw popularized the saying "Love means never having to say you're sorry," the cantakerous "ChopDog" has expanded this amorous concept to include that it also means you should immediately lock yourself
up in the nearest convenience store cooler and began drinking cheap malt liquor. Sheer genius! I cannot wait for Bender's next work (hopefully an Upton Sinclair-like expose of the seedy
underbelly of jug band touring).

One Bizarre Trail Ride

I bought this book since I really enjoyed his first effort, Don't Stop the Disco. The first book was more dark and sensual, whereas this one was completely of the wall. It was kind of like being in an insane asylum, where you're a fly on the wall. You get to see the patients delusions as they see them, not how society sees them (which of course is not seeing them at all). I became part of this brilliantly odd world where singing and dancing is not only normal, but expected. I came to see that I could open up to anyone, especially if they didn't even know me. Basically the more absurd, the better. I came in expecting to be frightened or tormented by images of murder and/or sexual taboo or nanotech, but instead was treated to insane situations that were unexpected, yet tremendously funny! I actually fell off my chair while reading the first couple of stories. The originality of the characters and situations was so refreshing considering alot of what I've read lately could be considered re-treads of older story lines.
Hidden within those pages is a story of post 9-11 NYC that is simply captivating. I felt like I couldn't walk away from what the writer was seeing and I felt the myriad of emotions he was feeling. I could smell the fires in the air and even had to rub my eyes from the burning sensation that they caused. I could feel the pain of a city that was in shock and saddened by their loss. There was even a story about a revolution in the United States that held me in enchanting disbelief.
I would highly recommend this collection to anyone out there craving something new and original. Even those of you that loved "Disco" won't be disappointed in Bender's new venture. Just remember to strap on your seatbelt for one wild ride you'll not soon forget!!
