Powerfully Thought-provoking
Existential
Meditation
'On the questions of Beginning, the Meaning of Existence, and the Consequences of the End' has a basic underlying message: Get back to the simplicity of life. The words themselves sound simple enough, but if you look around, human beings tend to take the simplest of things and create havoc. Simon Cleveland has penned what could be considered a highly controversial subject and approached it without sounding accusatory, vain, egotistical, or self-righteous. There are no preachy sermons or in-your-face nagging. In fact, through quality research, quotes, theories, and opinions, the author presents to you a book poised with thought-provoking ideas that make an enormous amount of sense. It, of course, depends on how you choose to view his ideals and how they mesh with what has been ingrained inside you since the day you were born. It is thinking outside of the box, but at the same time taking into consideration what is inside the box rather than ignoring it completely.
The book consists of three main parts: Why is there a beginning? What is the meaning of existence? and Consequences of the end. They in turn have sub-parts that delve deeper into fact, fiction, truths and myths. It is through these sub-parts where the author really shines with findings to support this book.
Simon Cleveland asks us to take the time to answer the questions we are faced with everyday. Questions of who we are, why we react the way we do, why we internalize everything and analyze things to death. Why we do not take things at face value but spend an incredible amount of time reflecting on - rather than living - our lives. Always looking for a message, or even looking to an outside force that may never answer those "all important" questions. Why we do not trust our own instincts and question what we know to be right?
Anyone can read a phrase and interpret it a thousand different ways. You might take something from this book that differs from what I took. If you allow yourself the time to read Existential Meditation 'On the questions of Beginning, the Meaning of Existence, and the Consequences of the End' without reacting defensively, you'll find a wealth of interesting facets about the way we behave. If you really take the time to consider the author's words, rather than argue for argument's sake, I feel you will walk away with knowledge and insight. What I have gathered is that humans are not the complex creatures we make ourselves out to be, but we certainly know how to complicate things. I encourage you to explore these motivational pages and take away from it what you will, and appreciate it for the clarity it can bring if you let it.

Life Changing
This book was exactly what I was looking for in a non-fiction read. Mr. Cleveland wrote a thought-proking and enlightening book. I would have loved to read this book during my counseling course in college. He used wonderful examples, and I really felt like I was connecting with the author while reading this book. This book is a perfect example of an author stretching himself to search for answers and sharing those thoughts with his readers. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to think about their existence, their goals, their dreams, and their very reason for being! Thank you, Mr. Cleveland! I look forward to reading your next enlighting work.

Mr. Cleveland certainly did his research
I can see why some folks may see the book as controversial, but I loved the way that the author approached the three facets of existence and supported his theories with the opinions and quotations from scholars on this topic. Mr. Cleveland certainly did his research. His words definitely make one put on their thinking cap and force the reader to ponder many things to which they would have otherwise probably never given much thought. You will not want to put this book down for fear that you will miss something, but when you do, you will find yourself picking it up again to see what other morsels Mr. Cleveland has offered for your assimilation. Whether or not you agree with Mr. Cleveland's opinions, you can't deny that they implore you to examine your own."

I liked this book and I guarantee you'll like it too.
After reading Simon Cleveland's book cover to cover, I have to say that what stayed with me were the clarity of ideas and the exquisiteness of the discourse. I enjoyed the examples he used to demonstrate the concept of
existential meaning
. They were concise and easy to understand. There are plenty of examples in the book of good research and logical conclusions. If you've read The End Of Faith by Sam Harris and liked it, you'll enjoy Existential
Meditation
immensely.
Something has been bothering me for a while about some of the critics on Amazon. These days it is rare to find a book that goes to the heart of the matter without taking readers through myriad of empty adjectives and nouns devoid of genuine thought. I've read plenty of books that were stripped of authentic content and ingenuity, books without uniqueness. I realize the members of the literary world need to make a living, feed and cloth their children, and justify their education, but in the end, the person who fronts their bills is me, the reader. An eye opening statistics changed my view of the publishing world. I had no idea that some of my most favorite authors were rejected countless times by publishing houses and agents (William Saroyan was rejected 7,000, Richard Bach - 140, Margaret Mitchell - 38, Stephen King's Carrie was rejected 30 times, while JK Rowling's Harry Potter at least 12). If these authors had given up, today we'd have only Don Quixote or Frankenstein to amuse us when we crave magic and imagination. Thankfully, we don't live in the middle ages any longer. The voice of literature has been altered by the advancement of science and technology and my interest, as well as those of countless other readers have shifted, the demand has widened. Are we to give up our most cherished desires to read and experience new ideas and thoughts for the sake of long pages and no typos? One of the critics here mentioned there were some typos in this book. This person missed entirely the meaning of this work. A book is not about the typos in it. I find thousands of errors every day in newspapers, online forums, books in print, but that doesn't stop me from searching for the main idea of the work. If you read for the sake of typos, you'll only find typos. Anyone interested in seeing errors in the media only needs to visit [...]/. A book is about sharing thoughts and ideas. A good critic would be able to extract these ideas and share them with the readers. This book offered answers to my questions and that's all that matters to me.
