Enjoyable

In this novel, Palfrey's style of writing has a continuously well-paced cadence to it that lulls you into the lives of the characters. Middle-aged Audrey whose marriage has fallen apart is unable to communicate with her rebellious adult daughter and is willing to put her total assess on the line to prove that her troublesome son is not a murderer. During this turmoil, Audrey meets Maxwell, the man of her dreams, but the relationship is deemed taboo on both ends. What risks do they take in order to pursue this relationship or is it worth any risks at all?

Overall, the book was an easy, straight forward, predictable read.

not her best

I think Ms. Palfrey didn't describe Audrey in detail so the readers could use their imagination, however I like those details included for me. But it was a interesting story, and does hold your attention. I am a Evelyn Palfrey fan and will most certainly be reading any future books by her.

Too Scared To Feel Good

Audrey is like most middle-aged women who have worked hard all of their adult life to further their career while supporting their husband and his career. She has a weight problem in her mind, but she is at the point in her life where she can travel when she wants to and buy pretty much anything she wants. Yet, money is not everything. Her husband is always out of town on business, her daughter hardly speaks to her and her son just got put in jail for murder. Yet, nothing could have prepared her for the shock of her life she received when she convinced her rebellious twenty-three year old daugther Rosa-Lee to get in their Motor-home and take a road trip with her.

On the first night Audrey is prepared for a night of gambling in Shreveport and a Mother and daughter reconnection as soon as her daughter Rosa-Lee took a nap to re-cooperate from all the beer she had drank while they were driving that day. While checking on things at their family vacation condo in Shreveport, she realizes that the Condo is being occupied. Who had her husband rented it to without telling her?

This book is captivating! I was anxious each time I turned another page. This lady was just like many of the women I know who have been lucky enough to have lived past forty and still be able to hold onto their sanity. Raising kids and watching them turn into adults. Then watching their husbands, who they have supported all of their married life turn into middle-aged, selfish strangers. Then along comes the man of their dreams, but is he really?

I give this book a 5.0! I could not put it down.

Ms.Palfrey,
you do your work very well, this book was hard to put down. I have to tell you that I wish I'd had the chance to start at THE BEGINNING!! You go girl! Remember I asked you what would follow this one, now I'm just waiting. I want you to know that I feel like I know some of these people, they are dear to me.Audrey and Kirk,Sondra and Ike, Mary Beth and Danny to name a few. You wouldn't want to miss any of the friends, so we need one more(please)
Your Fan, Bobbie

**Bad Cop-Bad Cop, Whatcha Gonna Do**

Detectives Maxwell and O'Connor are bad...and I do mean good. They can protect me anytime(lol). I've read this book before and I have to say that it's better the second time around. Reading it the first time was just that..reading the words. Reading it the second time I've got a better appreciation for the characters and the storyline. I like how Ms. Palfrey limits the descriptions on some of the characters. You picture in your mind what the characters look like. Audrey's my girl, enduring what she went through and finding love in Kirk Maxwell. The part of the book where Kirk took Audrey and her friend Marybeth to a club and Daniel(Danny) shows up and takes Marybeth to the dance floor, and he dances wild and crazy was hilarious. Each couples' lovemaking scene was spicy..Daniel and Marybeth's was spicier. I also liked how Ms. Palfrey brought back "Sondra and Ike" from "Three Perfect Men", and "Vivian and Marc" from "The Price Of Passion". I just love how Ms. Palfrey tells a story. Mature love is ALRIGHT with me.

"I'll fix it for you. You don't have to cry," said the tall man with the deep, Barry White kind of voice.

But Audrey Roberts wasn't just crying about her flat tire. Her tears were for things that couldn't be mended. After all, how do you fix the pain of finding your lawyer husband in bed with someone else? And how do you heal the wound of having your only son face trial for a murder he insists he didn't commit?

Houston cop Kirk Maxwell might not have known the details of Audrey's life, but he could recognize a person who had reached a breaking point. He had reached his own after the death of his wife. Now he's responding to Audrey's with a surge of protectiveness -- and passion.

But Audrey soon finds that Maxwell's affections have created a dangerous dilemma for both of them. Realizing that Maxwell was the arresting officer in her son's case, Audrey must decide what is more important: fighting for her child...or her own heart.
