Tragically Beautiful.

I can understand why some other reviewers find the Green Darkness a
bit eccentric; it is, after all, a story about Reincarnation.
However, in spite of my very high expectation,
the book did not fail to brand a strong impressions on me,as most tragic story does. It is not, in any way, as masterful as Anya Seton's Katherine, but it's still made my evenings very pleasant, though I despaired over the turns of events.

I don't know if this was intentionally done, but at some parts I'd briefly thought that the characters were suffering unnecessarily...
but then again, I guess it was necessary in order for
the story to build its mystifying and beautiful aura.

In any case, despite the negative reviews seen here, you just canNOT
go wrong with an Anya Seton. Highly recommended for those who find
the concept of reincarnation and karma fascinating, as well as
historical-novel lovers alike.

Haunting and Unforgettable

I read this book a few years ago and I still think about the story to this day. A must read.

Dark Splendor

This book is beautifully written with fascinating subject matter. I am intrigued by the idea of reincarnation, and that we can go back and relive past experiences. Ms. Seton crafts a dark, lurid tale of a doomed love affair between a monk and his lovely student. Unlike another reviewer I found no problem with Celia; she behaved as many teenaged girls behave when they are in love: foolish and overly emotional to be sure, but that is how teenagers can be, even ones born in the 16th century. There were many parts in the book where I thought "Oh no, Celia - don't do that!" But she did, and I was riveted. I found the character of the water witch particularly fascinating and would have liked to know more about her; she was worthy of her own book! This is a dark story, as the title suggests, and it continues to haunt me. I was swept away into Celia's world as a result of Anya Seton's brilliant descriptions of the time period. All the more interesting because it is based on fact.
