Coupe De Ville

Coupe De Ville what a great plot! I loved this movie as much as any father would. The acting is good, the story is great. Good family flick.
Nice to go back in time, yet not so far back that one cann't really relate too. Needs to be digitaly re-enhanced on DVD.

One of the finest...

This movie is so wonderful. I loved it when it originally came out in the early 90's then redisovered it after my own father passed away. This movie should be released to DVD and for all of those who missed it I'm sad for you this movie has all the right punch; comedy, darkness, and drama. If you get the chance watch this movie you will be so glad you did.

Watch it just for the "Louie-Louie" lyric argument.....classic

There are so many scenes in this movie that are hysterical, including the scene where Patrick Dempsey's character gets busted by the dean of his school because his brother hung him out to dry, but the scene where the three brothers are arguing over the lyrics to Louie-Louie is one of a kind. Anyone who loves this movie (and it's absolutely one of my all time favorites) will get a grin by this one word...."wang on". Just the perfect family movie. Without being all gooey and sweet.

Warm hearted and wonderful. A lost classic.

This road movie is something of a lost gem. Still no DVD release? Unbelievable!

Starring Alan Arkin in one of his best roles, playing Alan Arkin the acerbic, single minded father who instructs his three disperate sons to drive an old cadillac across the country as a present for their mothers birthday. The proviso, of course, is that it must be delivered in mint condition.

Can the three brothers: the career military man, the intelligent, sensitive middle brother and rebellious, teenage petty-crook of a third brother get it together long enough to succeed? It's not exactly rocket science to see where this is movie is heading. Cue bickering, shouting, arguing, crashing, romance and reconcilliation all set against the hazy, summer backdrop and 1963 vibe of an 'innocent America'.

The film has a defiant message about the whole being greater than the sum of its parts and of the necessity of working at something even if a situation seems hopeless. It's summed up by a nice twist at the end that'll make you laugh and cry at the same time. However, all this is presented in such a realistic and warm manner you cannot help but get swept along in the brothers' cross country adventure and Arkin as the sour spirited, constant anchor keeps everything from sinking into too much schmaltz and syrup.

In fact, all the actors acquit themselves superbly; stereotypical though their characters may be, the performances bring life and heart to the movie. You feel for the older brother (Daniel Stern, Home Alone, City Slickers) giving up his military career to continue the family business. The wayward younger brother (Patrick Dempsey, Sweet Home Alabama, Some Girls and recently Grey's Anatomy) is teenage angst personified, rebellious but too scared to accept that anyone would (or could) help him. Best, for me is Arye Gross (Hexed, Big Eden) as the nerdy middle brother, forever trying to be peacemaker and the butt of big brothers disappointments and little brothers jokes. When he finally gets the girl, as it were (and it is!), you'll be cheering and what happens subsequently will see you letting off fireworks and calling in the marching band!!

So, three arguing brothers drive a car across the country to deliver it in time for their Mom's birthday... Yup, that's about it... And SO much more! Coupe de Ville is a feel good movie that, for once, really does feel good.

Considering the success these actors have achieved and of Arkins, pretty much, legend status, it's criminal this isn't out on DVD yet.

Should become a classic...

Where has this movie been hiding? It is absolutely hilarious! Why oh why has Disney not put this on DVD!! I will keep looking for a DVD, and maybe one day it'll show up. Three brothers together for a long trip is just wonderful. They act exactly how you would imagine, just a little crazier. A true delight to watch.

When producer Joe Roth was named head of Walt Disney Studios in 1998, he was always cited as the first studio head who had also worked as a movie director. What no one ever seemed to mention is that Roth was a wholly mediocre moviemaker, as evidenced by this film and his other two titles (including Revenge of the Nerds 2). This formula comedy, set in the summer of 1963 (which, as everyone knows, was the summer before America lost its innocence with the Kennedy assassination), is about three brothers whose tyrannical father (Joseph Bologna) commands them to jointly drive a brand-new Cadillac from Detroit to Florida, where Dad will present it to their mom as a birthday present. And God help them if they get so much as a scratch on it. The brothers--an uptight control freak (Daniel Stern) and two variously goofy types (Arye Gross and Patrick Dempsey)--have never gotten along. You can see where this one's heading before the car even gets out of Michigan. --Marshall Fine
