Great way to prepare for upcoming interview

I live in Houston and initially talked to the author, Robin Kessler, about doing some practice interviews before an important interview. Because I was temping at the time and couldn't afford it, she suggested I read this book to prepare myself. I wasn't too excited about reading a book, but was very glad that I did. I have never studied so hard for an interview before and didn't really understand the need to prepare myself in such a thorough way. However, it was well worth it-this book was a quick read-broken down into bite size pieces and really helped me come up with a way to take my experience, write it down in an outline, and be able to speak it clearly in an interview setting. I also liked the fact that she suggested looking at the job description to pull key/buzz words out and turn those into competencies to be focused on. I took those competencies and found 2 or 3 examples from my experience and had those examples in mind while in the interview. It worked and I felt prepared. Definitely worth the read and price for any interview setting. Thanks, Robin!

Competency-based interviews

This book did a good job of expaining this interview style and how to "work it" to the reader. I feel that it could have been accomplished in about half the number of pages, but am not sorry I bought the book.

If you've never been through one of these interviews, and have one coming up, buy the book and read it twice. It may very well make the difference between you and the next guy getting the job. If you're already pretty skilled at this type of interview, the book may not rise to the level you want, unless you just think you're skilled and haven't been getting the offer. If that's the case - buy the book.

Gaining a competitive edge at Ground Zero, Detroit, Michigan

Kessler's book enables you to cut through irrelevant factors in an interview and prepare for the most commonly asked questions. The book makes it clear that you have to not only anticipate these questions, but spend time working through your answer and matching your strongest examples to correct interview questions. With jobs being so scarce at this time, your odds of landing a job decrease significantly if you don't prepare correctly and truly put your best foot forward. Kessler's book provides all of the tools to excel in your next interview.

Excellent book

This book is so easy to read and apply. The strategies and guidance helped me to get my first job out of college. I'm about to go on another job search and plan on reading the book all over again. This book is definitely required reading for any serious job-seeker.

To the author, Robin Kessler: Thank you for writing this book! It's a keeper for a life-time.

Have you ever wondered why you didn't get a job offer after an important interview?

People interviewing for jobs today often fail because they are using yesterday's strategies. They haven?t realized that the best employers have changed the way interviews are done, and it now takes a different strategy to succeed. Competency-Based Interviews shows today's candidates a new, more targeted way to prepare for the tough interviews based on the competencies that the most sophisticated employers are looking for.

Competency-Based Interviews offers you a new and more effective way to handle the tough new interviews so that you will emphasize the knowledge, skills and abilities that you have and that employers need. Most sophisticated U.S. and international employers are using competency-based systems to recruit, interview and select employees. Corporations such as American Express, Anheuser Busch, BP, Coca-Cola, Energizer, Federal Express, IBM, and Pfizer are all looking for specific competencies.

Preparing for a competency-based interview will give you the strategy you need to:

? Be selected for the most competitive positions.
? Win the best job at a new organization.
? Get a great first job or internship.
? Be chosen for that critical promotion in your current organization.
? Take control of your career path.
? Increase your salary.
? Get more interesting assignments and more interesting work

Most interviewees don't know how to be successful when they are being interviewed by an organization looking for key competencies. Few candidates answer questions so they demonstrate their own critical competencies. Competency-Based Interviews will teach you what you need to master this tough new interview style and give the interviewers the answers that will win you the job.
