Share a little taste of holiness

Author and retreat master Gloria Hutchinson presents the spirit of Mother Teresa in three "inextricably interwoven" parts: life in Jesus, boundless love, and bearing witness. Each part begins with an overview of one period of the saint's life and follows with five related topics containing scripture passages, quotations, commentary, and photos. The layout and typography of the book give clear emphasis to the saint's words. Hutchinson's commentary shows us how to apply Mother Teresa's example of living, loving, and giving witness to our own lives.

The topic Responding to Jesus, for example, centers on Mother Teresa's conviction that "We have to become holy in whatever life God has put us." Hutchinson comments: "The only garden in which sanctity will not grow is the untended one... a simple smile or a listening ear draws people closer to God and helps the provider grow in holiness." She writes of the admirable simplicity of Mother Teresa's advice and suggests practical applications. We "share a little taste of holiness," by smiling at a fellow commuter, letting the mother of a whining child cut in line at the supermarket, or yielding to an angry driver.

Should we need an image of Mother Teresa, Hutchinson writes, "We can picture her holding a child, a vagrant, or a dying person with one hand and with the other fingering her rosary."

Presents Mother Teresa's spiritual way, through an appealing collection of her own writings and a commentary by the editor. To all who knew her, personally or through the media, Mother Teresa of Calcutta embodied Jesus promise, Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me (Mt 2540). The works of mercy were her daily bread. This woman, who her contemporaries recognized as a saint, understood the purpose of human life to be Christ for others, to see Christ in others particularly those who, as she said, have no one to call their own. It is a goal worthy of a lifetime. Can we follow her life? Created for Greater Things shows that we can. Her way is accessible and can transform our lives. She shows us how to live our lives with faith, love, understanding and responsibility. Like Mother Teresa we too can bring the presence of God in the world. Includes 25 bw pictures
