Lovely off-beat baby journal

I agree with another reviewer that this is a lovely journal to use in addition to a more formal "baby book" for keepsakes and the facts. Many such formal books have little space for your thoughts and impressions of your baby in each month. This journal provides such space, as well as more unusual inspirations such as your baby's first tree. I thought the illustrations were lovely and disagree with a previous reviewer that the paper felt cheap -- not at all! It is a smaller journal than some of the large album type baby books, but it's not especially small. In all, it's a sweet baby journal to supplement a baby book that has less free-form space.

A joy to fill out!

I really enjoyed filling out this journal. I didn't start until my son was just over a year, but in a few hours I was able to jot down lots of notes from memory and fill it most of the way out. McClure includes thought-provoking questions on some pages while leaving most of the pages blank (with only the month denoted) for free-form writing. Her art is simple and heartwarming and adds an element of fun and class to the journal. After I added a few pictures here and there it seems complete, even though I don't have every white space filled out.
Please know, a 4x6 picture fills up most of a page, so there isn't a lot of room for pictures. I am using this book in conjunction with a photo keepsake book. Also, you should be aware that about half of the journal covers month 0-24 and the other half is for jotting down "firsts" and the songs you sing, books you read together, drawings, and other inspiring things.

A Beautiful Keepsake

I bought this book a couple of months ago, based on the positive ratings I'd read about it and I'm so glad I did! The images are absolutely beautiful, and there is ample space to write down memories, based on the prompts the author provides, as well as other things of your choosing. It's especially great if you're not really a fan of the usual "fill in the blank" style baby book, or if you want something else to going along side your other baby book...which allows you to go into more detail about things, or talk about topics of your own choosing. I can't wait to fill mine in!

This notebook is a keeper!

I was so excited that Amazon had this book since I saw it on [...] and the price was great. Not only that, but the book was divine! I could write all my thoughts and milestones that my son had done in this handy notebook that I fit into my bag. The pictures where pretty and there was enough space to jot down notes and even glue some pictures inside. This book will come in handy when I finally make my scrapbook because so I can remember what happened in the months that are going by so fast. I wish I got it since my son was born. He's one now, so I had to start midway. This will definitely make a great baby shower gift. I think I'll buy more for my girlfriends. This will especially be a treasure for any artist or designer that will appreciate the wood cut looking designs. Hope this review helped!

Loved It!

I love this book, I get it for all the new babies in my life! I was dissapointed that it ended, I wanted it to go on and on!

reviews: page 1, 2

Nikki McClure's beautifully detailed illustrations divide this lovely baby journal into sections celebrating the first 1,000 days of life, from the story of birth to jumping into her first mud puddle. Modeled after the journal the author started when her son was born, the sections focus on recording a child?s interaction with the natural world, including baby?s first tree, moon, and garden.
