The first annual supplement to the new fourth edition of Antitrust Law Developments surveys and describes the significant developments in antitrust law during 1997 the year following the December 1996 editorial cutoff of ALD(4) and, in several instances, noteworthy developments from late 1997 and early 1998. Nineteen ninety-seven was a year of important events in nearly every area of antitrust practice. It included conflicting court rulings, as well as developments in the courts and at the agencies as both the federal and state agencies reviewed a record number of transactions, in the organization of the Antitrust Division of the DOJ, in the definition of relevant markets, and in the use of state antitrust laws, to name just a few areas.
