Best book on the subject!

This book has the best diagrams and explanations of trigger points in layman terms. My problem with trigger point thereapy, however, is the bruising. I don't have sensitive body skin at all and these therapies cause me brusing and extreme sorness. The tennis ball approach brings out all of these trigger points and then the knobble bruises me up some more and then I have to go get a massage to correct the mess I have caused myself. Before discovering trigger point therapy, I would just go get a massage and the problem would be resolved (crick in the neck, sore legs, whatever). After doing trigger point therapy for the last two months, I have been in constant pain and bruised very badly.

My recommendation: don't be too aggressive and realize that if you pull out some muscle knot that you may not be able to get rid of it without professional massage or chiropractic treatment.

I bought stretching book which emphasis the MING method for getting rid of sore areas and I like that stretching approach better than the trigger point. I guess my main problem is the way of getting rid of the trigger points (knobble, pressure and so forth).

EXCELLENT- Buy with the Body Back Buddy

I bought this book when I also bought the Body Back Buddy for information on how to use it. This book gives you all the information about Trigger Point therapy and the most common areas. Many areas of pain have a different location of the trigger point, so it is important to look up. It is quite easy to locate your area of pain and the diagrams are excellent showing the area of pain and then each trigger point and the area it works on. I ended up adding tabs on my book :) so I could find the locations easier. I did use this for some acute pain I had after sitting for so long due to upper back/neck pain and migraines. I ended up with some low back pain, leg pain and foot pain when going back to work. These areas have referred pain from trigger points, meaning the trigger point is NOT where the pain is located, and the book is necessary to know these locations. My back back I guess I used the book for information, but it is easier to identify. I just go down my back, across my shoulder, under scapula and anywhere else that is tender:) Please read my review on the Body Back Buddy. I mentioned this book and explain my experience with using the Body Back Buddy for trigger point therapy. Trigger Point therapy has been my answer to managing my own pain. I have been going to a Massage Therapist weekly for over 10 years, and last summer had to go to Physical Therapy. My neck and back were so tight they spent most of the time trying to relax the muscles. After one month and my Doctor asking me how much I could do, I had to tell the Physical Therapist I needed exercises and needed to determine activity level. I was not ready though, My first exercise I could feel the pain down my neck and back and triggered migraines for another week ! Finally after 2 months of Physical Therapy I was greatly improved but still had pain. When I asked my Physical therapist how I was going to manage the pain, he suggested the theracane. I discovered the Body Back Buddy and this book when I looked up the theracane. I also use an ice pack most of the time after doing the trigger point therapy. It is easy to over do, and sometimes cause more pain. I have found using an ice pack after really helps prevent rebound imflammation and pain. I also bought Trigger Point Therapy for Headaches & Migraines: Your Self-Treatment Workbook for Pain Relief (Paperback) Valerie Delaune. this author provided some additional information on Trigger point therapy and additional information on the areas of concern for me . For me all three products were a necessity! This book The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook, also Trigger Point Therapy for Headaches & Migraines: and the Body Back Buddy. All are reasonably priced.

Text for Sonoma Massage School

California Institute of Massage & Spa Services is a professional massage school and we love using Claire Davis' book in our Advanced I Program as a fabulous Trigger Point introduction for our Advanced Students.

Cured my forearm/wrist pain and relieved my TMJ condition as well

About a year ago, I began to suffer from pain and tightness in my wrists, forearms, and hands; This was undoubtedly related to my computer job and hobbies that were very hand/wrist intensive. Over time, my condition steadily deteriorated. I tried various forms of conservative therapy consisting of rest, stretching, strengthening, icing, etc... This only provided temporary relief. Finally, I came across this book and the trigger point therapy method described within. So far it seems to have fixed the problem. I found the explanations and diagrams easy to follow. I highly recommend it to anyone before considering surgery. Not everyone develops trigger points apparently, but it is still worth a shot before going under the knife.

Trigger point therapy is one of the most intriguing and fastest-growing bodywork styles in the world. Medical doctors, chiropractors, physical therapists, and massage therapists are all beginning to use this technique to relieve formerly undiagnosable muscle and joint pain?conditions that studies have shown to be the cause of nearly 25 percent of all doctor visits. The technique involves applying short, repeated massage strokes to trigger points, tiny contraction knots in muscle tissue where restricted circulation and lack of oxygen cause referred pain. Trigger points create pain throughout the body in predictable patterns characteristic to each muscle, producing discomfort ranging from mild to severe. Trigger point massage increases circulation and oxygenation in the area and often produces instant relief. This dynamic technique has made a huge impact among health professionals and the public alike, becoming an overnight classic in the field of pain relief. The book has sold over 220,000 copies since the release of the first edition in 2001. The second edition is a complete update and includes a new chapter specifically for massage professionals, as well as a chapter on systematic muscle relaxation techniques that can reinforce the therapeutic power of trigger point work.
