Great book about values

What a super book to teach the values of helping, serving and respecting elders. Today, when kids seem too preoccupied with being entertained, this teaches that joy comes from helping others. I loved it!

I Found My Smile When I Read This Book

Can You Help Me Find My Smile? Is a wonderful way to get others to smile when it's read. Again, like Sommer's other books, the picture illustrations are so adorable and colorful. The detail is superb. It made me so glad to read that Grandpa helped his grandson, by teaching him the valuable lesson of helping others. It's the law of sowing and reaping that makes this book so true.

Can You Help Me Find My Smile was another one of my Carl Sommer favorites. The story is about Teddy the young bear who is grumpy and no matter how hard he tries he can't seem to find his smile. The help and advise from friends, even a new bicycle on his birthday doesn't seem to make him happy for long. After searching he finally seeks the advise of his grandfather. As Teddy discovers he finds his smile again by helping others. I would definitely recommend this book for elementary school children. This is a good lesson in wisdom, kindness and giving.

Will warm the heart of a child!

This wonderful story has a valuable message for young and old alike. It is delightfully illustrated and will captivate any young child. In todays variety of high-tech toys and games kids often quickly lose interest and want something new. What a wonderful world it would be if they could learn the joy in helping others like Teddy did. A book you and your child will love.

Everything about this book is terrific. The story line captures the attention of the children as well as teach them a most important life lesson. Children can be very self-centered and this book teaches that we can find happiness when we give to others in many different ways. Life shouldn't always be about what we can get, but about what we can give.

The bear cub Teddy is a grumpy bear. Even though he had been a happy baby from a loving family, along the way he had lost his smile. He doesn't enjoy any of the things that usually make children happy, such as baseball, bike riding, rides at Playland, and swimming. Teddy tries real hard to find his smile, but nothing works, until he asks his grandpa for advice. Grandpa tells him that he can only get his smile back if he makes others happy. Teddy can't understand how this will help, but he's willing to try. He goes home and starts doing helpful things for his family and for his friends at school. He quickly discovers that Grandpa was right-happiness comes by helping others. In this moving story by Carl Sommer, children will learn about caring, citizenship, and about one of the most important principles of living a happy life--helping others. Grades K-3.
